Can I get into UT McCombs with a 3.7 as a transfer?

Hi, everyone I am really nervous about getting into UT so replies would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Can you be more specific with stuff you have. Indicator courses, total hours, ecs, recommendations, essays, transfering from, other courses you’ve done? I’m a transfer as well, and it’s good to see how everyone else is doing!

The average external is a 3.9. Better have some strong ECs.

I have all 4 indicator courses done and i will have 56 hrs by the end of this semester. I will be getting a letter of rec from my professor who did his undergrad and went to law school at UT. I am currently attending UTD.

anyone else?

OMG!! I’m right there with you!! I have a 3.794 GPA at Dallas Community College and I’m praying that I can get into McCombs to do finance!! I have all 4 indicator courses completed as well (all A’s) along with ACCT 2301 & 2302 (A and B). I have 63 total hours. When it comes to EC’s, I have a few church activities, a few HS clubs, and a couple of sports clubs I did over the summer. I’m also in Phi Theta Kappa and I might be able to get a letter of recommendation from an English prof that really like me. When I went to transfer orientation for McCombs, they said that the average GPA was a 3.92. I really hope I get in because I don’t really have a good backup. Any info to help me out would be greatly appreciated!!

If it helps, for the fall of 2010, 106 people were admitted with an average of 3.86. Meaning that there definitely had to be some 3.7 people. 3.92 was for the fall of 2009. What classes did you not get A’s in? A counselor told me that they’re generally more lenient with B’s in like English or History…Honors classes may help!

I got B’s in Chemistry 1411, History 1301, Government 2301, and Accounting 2302. Otherwise I got all A’s in the other 63 credit hours I’ve completed. Is there anything that you can think of to help me get in??

I got a C- in a comp class but have been getting As and a few high Bs in the rest of my classes.

Here’s what I think will happen from LOTS of calls to admission and talking to people who got into McCombs. 3.7 is going to be towards the lower end of those accepted. There’s no way around that (and I don’t want to sound mean). A 3.7 will need some really good ECs, essays, honors, anything else that can set you apart. I’m fairly certain that we can send our Spring semester courses in (but talk to admissions about this, and post back here, I’m interested too). I know if you have less than 30 hours you have to send in a Spring transcript, but I don’t see why someone with over 30 hours can’t as well. A high 3.8 will definitely get you in, so the BEST thing I think that will help is send in Spring transcripts (with as high as possible). The admissions lady basically told me, that they look at who has the indicator courses, then throw out the ones that don’t. Then they look at who has a 4.0, and put them in the ‘probable admittance’ pile, and continue down until an ‘unofficial’ cut off. Other stuff like ECs and recommendations are used as tie breakers. Don’t hold this in stone though, I’m not an expert and anything can happen!

JammyD, are you hoping to transfer to McCombs too? If so, what are your stats?

I have a 4.0 with two indicator courses done. I’m enrolled in the other 2 this semester, which I will send off. I have no college ECs (though I had quite a few in high school), 2 recommendations, and decent essays.
