Can I get some help on dorm decisions?

Hi, first post on CC, though lurking on here during the admission process did help me out a bit. :)

I've looked at the Unofficial Dorm guide, and I'm still not quite sure what to pick. I sent in the housing application about a month ago, but I'm wondering whether to change/modify it. I put Blackstone as a first choice, but after reading up, I hear its not the best place for first year students. Max was my second choice, and Broadview as my third.

Can I get some in-depth opinions about those three dorms in particular? And as a side note, I'm looking to be able to interact and really get to know the people in my house, as well as joining quite a few organizations. Maybe all of you veterans might know which one of those three then would be suit me?

Thanks for any input in advance.

I’ll talk about why I picked Max P as my first choice. It’ll be my first long stay in the United States, and I wish to familiarize myself with everything on-campus. I like to be near everything, so I picked Max P.

I also talked to a couple of current students, and the vast majority of them just recommended Max P to me. They were really happy with their first-year experiences at Max P.

I am also a swimmer, so I would like to be near the athletic complex. That also affected my choice. I study hard and play hard, and I would like to go to the Doc film sometimes. Max P’s proximity to the Reg library doesn’t hurt either.

I’m a first-year living in Max this year. For what you want out of a dorm, Max sounds like it would fit you much more than would Blackstone or Broadview. Both of those are farther from campus and contain more upperclassmen than Max. From what I’ve heard, those dorms are for people who experienced the house system and wanted more of an independent experience. If you want to meet lots of people and join lots of activities, Max is probably the best place to be. The dorm is, for the most part, extremely social and participate in almost every intramural sport available.

Alright, thanks for the input. I think I’ll put Max as a first choice.
