I'm a junior and I just took the SAT for the first time in January. My score was much less than my initial goal but it's something that I can build off of. I recieved a 600 in Math, 660 in CR, and a 730 in W. Realistically, can I improve by about 100-150 points by March? I'm definitely ready to put in a lot of effort but I don't know if it's humanly possible. Anybody have an experience as such? And is so, how'd you do it?

bump 10char

I’m in the exact same boat as you. I too am a junior who took the SAT for the first time last month with zero prep. My score breakdown came out as 600 CR 590 M 650 W (8 essay)-- 1840

Yeah. I don’t know if I should prepare like crazy and take another crack at it in March. I don’t really want to take it so many times to where colleges that i’m retaking it a bunch of times just for the hell of it. At this point, I’m leaning towards waiting for the May SAT and really preparing for it this time. Extremely ****ed I missed out on 1200 CR + M, and with prep., I plan on absolutely slaughtering that mark. So, point blank, my best advice would be to wait till May after really hitting the books for awhile. But hopefully someone more qualified answers since this is my first time taking it also.

Ouch just noticed you missed a 2000 by 10 points, just like my 1200 CR + M, which would’ve given me conditional acceptance into certain Med Schools in line with my school’s program :/

Yeah I think I’ll wait for the May exam. I’m sure with enough help I’ll get it I guess.

I know people who went from 1900+ scores to 2300+. Just practice.
It’s what I’m doing at the moment.

Shaheiruddin how’d you do in Jan, are you looking for like a 150+ bump in March?
Yeah I’m about to practice my butt off, like about 2 hours a day. I’m sure I’ll do fine, just have to put in time and effort.

1950

610 CR 650 Math 690 Writing 10 Essay I scored this after only doing a few practice tests. I’m looking to hit 2250 by March after doing 6-8 (2 per week under real testing conditions) more before the March test.

Wow, are you going to exhaust all of your tests before march? I know that I’m already on the online course, and I really don’t want to loose all of my practice tests. I was considering canceling my score, but didn’t. I’d rather have an upward trend. Well, guess I’m in the same boat as you. I really want to ecplise 2150 before March.

I have many QAS thanks to collegeconfidential. I also thought about canceling, but I decided against it because of score choice.

Ahh, well thank you and good luck in March. Time to study like a maniac and hope for the best.

If you really want to do well, you have to get one of those huge SAT prep books from barnes and noble, and read every single page. Just get it done and the rest of your life you will reap the benefits.

pakistani: i had kaplan private tutoring during the summer and received 2180 on my last practice test. however, i had marching band in the fall and didn’t practice as much as i did in the summer but still took the October SAT. I thought i did amazing but i only got a 2050(650CR, 630W, 770M). I was really heartbroken but I started new routines of practice. I did either full CR or W parts of a test everyday(mostly CR b/c I felt I was weaker in CR). Granted, there were some times when i didn’t wanna do it, so it wasn’t strictly everyday, but I tried my best to practice a lot. I also looked up how to do better on the essay(I got an 8 in oct) and thought of some examples. I retook the test in January and got a 2280(720 CR, 790W(10 Essay), and 770M) It’s all just practice. I didn’t need tutoring and I went up 230 points(when i was already above 2000, which is pretty hard). Looking back on it, i regret wasting my parents money with tutoring(although I accredit tutoring to my 224 on the PSAT in oct). But, just keep practicing A LOT. and you’ll get your score.
