Should I retake SAT in March?

Hello CC!

I took my SAT for the first time in January 2015 and i just got my score and was not very happy.
I scored a 2010
Math - 730
CR-610
Writing-670
Raw Writing Score-65
Essay - 9

I am totally self studying and took at least 20 practice tests before this SAT and consistently scored 2150+. I believe I scored lower due to the fact I was nervous and tired. Do you think I should take the March 14th SAT? Or should I wait till october (I cannot take May because I will be studying for AP tests and June because I am taking Subject Tests then). I plan on studying at least 2 hours monday - thursday and 3-4 hours friday- saturday. Do you think I can hit 2200 in March?

If you have understood what you missed and why, and taken practice tests that consistently show an improved score, then it might be better to take the March test rather than the October SAT. If you don’t feel confident or continue getting inconsistent practice test scores, then wait until October. The reason for this is next fall you will be busy filling out college applications, studying for your classes, etc…so while October is doable, it can just be a bit harried. In the end, you have to do what you feel is best for you. Good luck.

@rubberfall‌ Thank you for the response! My practice test scores are pretty consistant at around the 2200-2250 range. I think i might have just been nervous as it was my first time and a school i had never been to before so i felt stressed out and wasnt able to focus as well i usually do especially on CR. I will probably be

Wow, awesome score for the first time! Without a doubt you can improve to at least a 2200, if not better.

you’re not alone, @sanieldalib! I usually score over 2200 on practice tests, but I received a 2080 on the Jan one! I’m taking the march test  Good luck & may we both get 2200+!

There’s just something about taking the real SAT for the first time that’s absolutely nerve-wracking…
I got 2150 in November, which was definitely lower than my consistent 2250+ practice scores, so I get where you’re coming from. The length and stress associated with the test were just not my cup of tea. I got a 2370 in January after a weekly practice tests (blue book and released tests) for about a month and a half. And going in to the January test, I was a lot more relaxed because I knew the whole routine!

I think you’re on the right track for March SAT, and an increase of 200+ is definitely possible with your dedication! You’ll be much more comfortable with the pacing and endurance involved (do you time your practice tests just like the real SAT? It helps a lot), which will really help your score. Good luck!
