Can I Retake the AP French Exam (w/o taking the class again)

I would consider myself an overachiever. I took my first French Class in 8th grade at the local High School. So I was the only 8th grader in French I. I then took French II and French III Freshmen Year (both 1 semester courses). During the end of Freshman Year our school went through major budget cuts. Many Classes were either condensed or cancelled from curriculum. The French Curriculum before the budget cuts was French I-French V (AP French) and all classes were 1 semester long. After budget cuts the curriculum was condensed so that now there is only French I-French IV (AP French) with all classes being a year long. So anyone who takes French now would get about 4 years of learning. I only got 1 and a 1/2 years of French learning. Unfortunately I was caught in the gap. I couldn't take AP French Junior or Senior Year because I knew there would not be enough room in my schedule so I decided to take a chance. Anyways, I did well in my French classes:

French 1: B +
French 2: A
French 3: A
AP French: B

The AP French Exam was a different story. I was good when it came to grammar and reading but listening and speaking probably hurt my score. I haven' t gotten my score yet but I'm sure it isn't as good as I wish it could be. Because of the shortened curriculum my class didn't get to cover all areas of AP French (we basically did grammar and reading and very little speaking or listening till AP French). The whole class agreed that we were incredibly unprepared for our exam. My question is can I retake the exam without having to retake the class. I plan on studying independently for it. I was also thinking to maybe just delete my AP score and take the SAT French Exam instead (I heard its a lot easier).

You don’t have to take a class to take an AP exam; preparing independently at home will often suffice. I would wait until the AP results came in…your score could surprise you ;)

Now I’m confused:

smorgasbord is Right. I haven’t gotten my scores yet. I’m still waiting. But I’m sure it isn’t great.

You should contact the College Board about your scores, they were mailed out about 3-4 weeks ago. They might need to resend them to you. Or you might pay the $8 to get your scores over the phone. I wouldn’t be fretting till you actually know your score.
