I applied to Yale SCEA and was deferred like so many of the rest of us :/ Since I turned in my app waaay long ago in Nov. I have drastically changed my essay for the better. Can I send my essay to Yale? I read in another thread that you can send in your edited essay but the schools would consider it "additional info". Thanks guys.

I asked my regional admissions officer via e-mail, and he said I could send any "corrections" in, so I sent in a BRAND NEW yale supplement essay and some corrections on my commonapp essay. Even though I have to follow-up on the materials sent in a few days ago and I have noooo clue how to find out if they actually got my "changes"/"corrections", I do know that it doesn't hurt to ask your admissions officer about this stuff. (Hope this helps!!)

I highly doubt that it is a good idea to make a request sounding like your going to send in a polished version of an essay, but then end up sending in a completely new, different essay. I wouldnt recommend sending in a brand new essay unless it is really great and conveys a part of you that is pertinent but was left unsaid - and the admissions officer tells you that would be fine.

By sending in a revised essay, you draw attention to the flaws in the original as well. Plus you risk confusing admissions officers because they have too many documents under your name and it just lessens each one.

You should ask what options are there for sending in additional essays to Yale and revised versions. I would assume they would be fine with revised versions, but it honestly wont help you that much, and they wouldnt really want new essays, and most of the time new essays wouldnt help, but occasionally they would really help if they were truly great.

i have emailed my regional admissions officer with this question. the reason why this is so important to me is that i feel so much more satisfied with the quality and clarity of my revised essay.

^^ But what you "feel" about your essay might not necessarily be true. Not trying to offend anyone but look at the Decisions thread and see how many rejected/deferred people thought their essays were either brilliant or mind-blowingly good. You might not be the best critic of your work. Get a second, or third opinion before deciding anything.

Can't agree more with what Nick0117 said. Only send in additional stuff (essay especially) if it's of absolutely astounding quality and reveals something they don't already know about you. You don't know how annoying, not to mention tiring, it is to read boring essays. Tens of thousands of them.

I have a very similar problem. I'm very stressed because I really think that the essays that I submitted weren't very good at all. they were very rushed and i was still revising them an hour before midnight on halloween. I now have an essay that I am really happy with that is about a similar subject as my yale supplement essay but is COMPLETELY different. I'm also going to email my regional admissions officer, but let me know what yours says, Cassielam.

definitely ill wait until my admissions officer emails back but i fear it might be a while. he's probably very busy, not to mention he has to cover So. California
