Can I SIR to two UC's?

It says: "I accept this offer of admission to UC San Diego and I intend to register for Fall Quarter 2013. I understand that I may accept admission to only one campus of the University of California; returning more than one offer may jeopardize my enrollment opportunities."

I have already submitted my SIR to UCI. But I only have 3 days to decide whether or not to attend UCSD. I have not visited the campus and the earliest I can visit is Saturday. My admission decision is due on Friday.

So what happens if I SIR to UCSD and UCI? Is it possible they will they rescind my admission to both schools?

I don't know where to go yet!

@ MarlinFF

I’m guessing gamer142 SIRed to UCI and was accepted to UCSD off of the waitlist.

Yeah, I got into UCSD off the waitlist. I had SIRed to UCI.

Sorry for not stating that.

Anyone else know if its okay to SIR to two UC’s?

A student cannot SIR to two UC’s if it’s just because they cannot decide and want more time. In your case, you SIR’d, then were taken off the waitlist. Yes, you may accept UCSD and then send an email to UCI asking to withdraw.

I SIR’ed to 3 UC’s…

@quiverfox: Was that for freshman or transfer admission? When did you SIR to each of them (month and approximate day), and when did you inform the other two that you would not attend (assuming you chose a UC)? Why did you SIR to 3 colleges? Out of curiosity, which 3 did you SIR to and which did you choose? Were you at all nervous about them cancelling all 3 acceptances?

I’m surprised there isn’t a computer check that cross-references SSN’s, but I guess it’s good to know it can be done. Still, I wouldn’t recommend that anyone take that risk.

UCB,UCSD and UCI :D

and there is not much of a difference for transfer from freshman…

Gamer 142 are you a freshman or transfer? I didn’t get off the freshman wait list :(

I was in the exact situation as you last year. I got accepted as a junior level transfer to UCI and waitlisted at UCSD on the same day.

I SIRed to UCI in April and in June I got accepted to UCSD. Because of the three day deadline to accept, I SIRed to UCSD as well because I didn’t wanna lose that opportunity. My major concern was that UCI had given me my exact financial aid offer while UCSD’s was a tentative estimate, which is why I didn’t feel comfortable cancelling my SIR to UCI just yet.

Living in NorCal and working full time made it a hassle to visit both schools in person but it was the only way I would have been able to make my decision because I was equally torn between both schools. I waited till I quit my job (which was two weeks after I had two SIRs on record) to visit both schools in person and within 10 minutes of being on the UCSD campus, I knew I would be cancelling my enrollment there which I did that night.

Shortly after I got a letter in the mail from UC saying that I had multiple SIRs and nicely asked me to cancel one of them (I guess it had been mailed out before I cancelled my SIR to UCSD). Nonetheless, I did not get in trouble; it was more like a reminder that I could only be enrolled at one school.

I caution you to take this with a grain of salt because who knows how lenient they will be. Just wanted to give you my story to take into consideration.

Anyways, good luck with your decision and feel free to PM me with any questions!
