Im just wondering can you SIR to two schools, and then withdraw the one you don't choose in the summer?

I don’t think you’er allowed to SIR to 2 schools. Im not 100% sure though.

I’ve heard of this being done before by people on this board. But personally if I were in your shoes I wouldn’t try risking it – these UC admissions officers have no hearts at all, they operate like machines. Which two schools are you torn between? You have plenty of time to narrow it down (June 1st) … I’d do that if I were you.

Ucsd and Ucd cant make up my mind. But im leaning to ucsd. I was just curious if it was possible, im prolly just gonna sir to ucsd.

Question: MyAdmissions says that I submitted my Statement of Intent to Register (SIR), but I do not intend to register.

Answer:
You can withdraw your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) using a link under the “Pre-enrollment Transactions” column at MyAdmissions.

This is from one of their FAQ pages. So it’s probably possible.

You are supposed to withdraw one SIR before you submit another SIR, and you lose the deposit at the first school. If you SIR to multiple campuses and one of them finds out, you may lose your admission offer at all of them. It’s stupid; don’t do it.

^Agreed, the policy is that if you SIR to more than one, you lose your admission at them all. That said, Ms. Sun mentioned in a blog post that UCs, in the past, haven’t checked for multiple SIRs.

Honestly, though, you have until June 1. That should be enough time to get to both campuses, do research on them, etc.

How about this? I’ve been accepted at UC Riverside and am on the waitlist for U C Davis. I would much prefer to attend Davis. I"m concerned that if I accept at UCR in order to be safe, that UCD will remove me from the waitlist. The UCD FAQ states “Admission from our waitlist is not guaranteed, so we strongly urge you to accept an admission offer from another college by its deadline. If we are able to offer you admission from the waitlist, you may cancel your acceptance at the other college and enroll at UC Davis.” On the other hand, The University of Calfiornia.edu website states, " You may accept admission to one campus only." Thoughts?

@soxfan511 – I’m pretty sure they will NOT remove you from the waitlist if you SIR to another school. What you do is send in your SIR to Riverside before June 1st to ensure that you have some place to go in the fall. If you are accepted off of the Davis waitlist, then you have to withdraw your SIR from Riverside and submit a new SIR to Davis. That way there isn’t a conflict (the conflict would exist if you SIRed to Davis after being accepted but did not withdraw your SIR to Riverside – then you would have an SIR in with two UC campuses).

Do you know anyone that has successfully done this?

as far as the UC’s not sharing information thing, I would be careful
I faintly remember speaking with someone who said that this is the
first year that if you send information to 1 UC, all the others will be able to see it too.
so, im not sure what else they might have changed or might
be able to see…just thought I’d let you guys know

No, I don’t personally know anyone who has done this, but I’m 98% that is how the waitlist works. I’m pretty sure that the issue is you cannot have an SIR in at more than one school at the same time, but if you withdraw your SIR from one school and then submit your SIR to another school, you are fine.

Anyway, you might want to watch this thread:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-san-diego/1133162-waiting-list-acceptances-2.html
It is for freshmen, but a lot of the students on the thread are dealing with the same situation that you proposed.

Staying on the waitlist at a school is not the same as submitting a SIR to that school. You can stay on the waitlist at as many schools as you like, while you are limited to only one SIR at a time. If you are accepted off the waitlist at one or more schools, you can withdraw your active SIR and submit another to your preferred school. Normally your deposit to the first school is non-refundable, though I suppose it’s possible UC would make an exception in the case where all the schools involved are UC campuses. Best to assume that you will lose the deposit to the first school unless you hear otherwise from an official source.

What if you submit your acceptance fee to an out of state school and submit your SIR to a UC school? They’re not in the same system so does it matter? o.O

My mom keeps asking because I already sent the acceptance fee to my out of state college but she wants another just for back-up in something “happens”.

^This thread is over a year old. Just saying. :)

I know, but sometimes people get notifications so if someone can help me, IF they can, then it doesn’t really matter how old it is, right? think positive ^.^

Well in that case, I don’t THINK they can track whether or not your SIR to an OOS school. If you’ve already been accepted and are about to SIR, why would you need a “backup plan?” You’ve already been accepted, so what else could possibly keep you from attending the school?

I don’t personally need a backup plan, however my mother feels differently.

I think she’s just scared about me leaving the state so she’s trying to like get me to still consider UCSB. I don’t know. I was pretty much set on going East but she’s making me totally unsure of my decision. She keeps telling me I’ll mess up, or that I’ll be all alone without family, blah, blah… ugh. So yeah, I’m confused. I told her you couldn’t but she wanted me to double check so I’m just asking around :/

Please don’t let your mom make your decision for you. It sounds like you really had your heart set on going back east and she’s making you second guess yourself. Trust me, if you chose UCSB just to make your mom happy, you’ll regret it- After all, YOU’RE the one that is going to be going to a school and has to do the work, not her. If it were up to either of my parents, I wouldn’t be going to school right now. Choosing a college that best suits your need is an important step into adulthood and signifies a bit of independence from your family. If you want to go to the East coast, then do it. Its likely that if you don’t, you will always wonder what it would have been like and could even (hopefully not) resenting your mom for persuading you against where your heart led you. Just my two cents. :)

just SIR to one, and if you change your mind, you can cancel it at the last minute and SIR to the other one. right? good luck dude!
