Can I still apply for TAG? Or apply as a competitive applicant?

I am starting at De Anza this fall and attended UNR for two semesters and received Two F’s and had to move last minute.
I noticed that for some certain UC schools they mention you can’t receive lower than a C to get accepted but is that true for UC Santa Cruz? I read their tag criteria and agreements and all it says is you need a 3.0 UC GPA by the time of submitting TAG. As long as I have that and the required grades for the specific courses for my major (Economics) will I be okay?

You need 30 semester or 45 quarter units at a California CCC to be able to TAG. Did you leave UNR in good academic standing? Are the courses in which you received an F are UC transferable? Are you planning to TAG for Fall 2017 or Fall 2018?
Application for TAG is due September 30th so if you have not attended a California CC, you would not have the required 30 units for Fall 2017?

Only students transferring directly from a California community college (CCC) are considered for a TAG, including international students (those with a visa). A CCC transfer student is one who has completed at least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferable units at one or more California community colleges, and the last college the student attended in a regular session (fall/spring or fall/winter/spring) before admission to a UC campus is a California community college. All UC campuses that offer TAGs require students to meet this definition.

UCSC TAG Eligibility

To be considered for TAG, you must meet the following criteria at the time the TAG is submitted:

Be enrolled at a California community college (you may have attended colleges or universities outside of the California community college system, including institutions outside of the U.S.)

Complete a minimum of 30 UC-transferable semester (45 quarter) units of coursework with a minimum UC GPA of 3.0

Demonstrate adequate preparation in English composition (first course must be completed no later than the end of the fall 2016 term) and mathematics (must be completed no later than the end of the fall 2016 term) if these requirements have not yet been completed successfully

In addition, to qualify for TAG you must meet the following criteria by the end of the spring term prior to fall transfer:

Complete the minimum of 60 UC-transferable semester (90 quarter) units and the seven-course pattern required for admission as a junior transfer

Complete a minimum of 30 UC-transferable semester (45 quarter units) of coursework from one or more California community colleges

Non-native speakers of English must demonstrate proficiency in English. Please go to UCSC’s English Proficiency Requirement page for more information.

Be in good academic standing (not on academic probation or dismissal status)

TAG approval is based on the above criteria only, including major preparation. Choice of major is not guaranteed through TAG unless the major is listed below under “UCSC TAG Major Preparation Selection Criteria.” Completion of major preparation coursework and satisfaction of any major selection criteria are extremely important.

@Gumbymom I was in good standing when I left UNR. I received an F in Community Health Science 102 and Trigonometry. I’m taking Trigonometry again this fall at De Anza. I plan on applying for TAG next September in 2017 and attending in Fall 2018. Will I be okay? I noticed for the criteria for TAG on UCSC it says you just need an overall UC GPA of 3.0. So would I be okay still?

If you are applying for Fall 2018, you should be OK as long as you maintain the minimum UC GPA of 3.0 or higher, have the required GE’s and major prep done by Spring of 2018 after applying. You do have to report all grades and send transcripts from all schools attended, but if the courses are not UC transferable or you repeated, you should be fine. I would always check with the UC transfer advisor at De Anza to make sure you are on track.

@Gumbymom Okay I will be repeating the courses at De Anza and I know that it won’t replace the old grades from UNR but if I repeat them at De Anza and take the required GE’s and major prep courses, then you think I would be eligible for TAG? Even if I did repeat those courses at another college?

I know that Trigonometry is UC Transferable but I have no clue if Community Healthy Science 102 (UNR course) is Uc Transferable. I won’t be able to find out for 4-5 months until De Anza finishes evaluating my transcript as well.

Since you will not be applying until next year, you have plenty of time to talk to an advisor after they evaluate your transcript and figure out if you are TAG eligible.

The UC system is the judge of what is transferable to them, not De Anza. It sounds like De Anza is evaluating what they will give you credit for at the CC, but that is not binding on the UC schools.
