UCSD TAG Eligibility?

I applied for TAG for UCSD. We all know that they don't let us know if our TAG was accepted or not until they actually roll out acceptance letters, but I'm concerned if I'll even get mine accepted.

The requirements are:

-You must be a California community college student.
-You have been enrolled at one or more CCCs for at least 2 regular terms (excludes summer sessions)
-You have completed at least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferable units at a CCC
-You are attending a CCC as your last college before UC San Diego admission (excludes summer sessions)
-You must be applying for admission with junior status:
60 UC-transferable semester units (or 90 UC-transferable quarter units) completed by Spring 2013

I meet almost all the criteria, but I'm not sure about one of them, which is the 3rd one. I went to a CSU for my first year and I'm currently at a CC right now. I will have more than 30 units completed at my CC this Spring. Does that work? Or does it have to be 30 units completed when this fall semester is completed? I'm an economics major, by the way.

Oh and another question, what's the average GPA accepted for Econ majors at UCSD? Non-TAG specifically?

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I didn’t have 30 Community College units completed when submitting my TAG.

Don’t you have a final to study for? =D

When life gives you lemons, wing it.

Won’t be able to wing it w/o TAG brah

I’m sorta in the same boat as you and I have researched this topic for a bit.
many people on here will tell you the opposite because they know from hearsay, but I heard it directly from the ucsd counselors as well as my dvc counselor.
the wording is a bit ambiguous on both the ucsd tag website and the actual tag website.
the actual tag website says the following:
· I will complete a minimum of 30 semester / 45 quarter units at a California community college; will attend at least two regular terms at a California community college; and my last regular term attended prior to admission will be at a California community college.

‘will’ and ‘will have’ are 2 completely different things. So as long as you will have them finished by then, then you’ll be fine.

Median transfer GPA is 3.5 so if you’re around 3.5 you should be okay. Econ is not impacted but there isn’t any data on the exact gpa for econ that I could find. Also keep in mind UCSD admits to the school not the major, even with the TAG. You can be guaranteed into the school and not get into the major (although highly unlikely with econ).

Alright, awesome. I’ll have a 3.8-3.9 after this semester. I placed Warren as my #1, and Muir as my #2. Getting into my major is more important to me than the college I get into.

Take a look at the matrix at <a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors; There are 2 things I see. First, only Irvine seems to require that you have earned 30 units at a CCC prior to applying. Second, there does seem to be a clause that says “The University of California defines a CCC transfer student as one who has completed over half of their units at a CCC. All UC TAG campuses require students to meet this definition.” I’m not a counselor so I can’t give advice based on what I know, but it does seem to be worth checking into the implications if 1/2 of your total units or more come from your non-CC school.

@bhargav21 - “Won’t be able to wing it w/o TAG brah”
hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

@Mike - it’s actually right there on page 3 of the matrix, where it states you have to have at least 30 semester/45 quarter units. It also states it all over the ucsd tag website.

@ucbhopeful

keep scrolling down to where it says minimum transferable units to submit a tag, it states 30 sem/45 quart for each school, however irvine is the only school that specifically states they have to be completed at a ccc.
The matrix is an official university of california website, so technically they have to abide by it.
I know the wording is extremely ambiguous, but I’ve been reassured that what I’m saying is correct by counselors confirmation.

I for sure will have more than 30 units from my CC. But for TAG, I don’t know when they want that 30 completed.
