Hi guys… I’m a junior in high school and I’m becoming worried that my chances of getting into a good college are getting smaller. I got Cs both semesters of algebra 2/trig freshman year and I got a D first semester of Pre-Calc honors sophomore year. I’m doing decent right now but I’m still afraid of my future. Is there still hope? (I want to be a nurse)
Why are you in Pre-Calc honors if you’re getting a D? Perhaps you might be better off in the non-honors class?
Obviously, you should try you best to bring your grades up, but if you are not able to do so, there are other options. You could, for example, go to a community college for two years and then get an automatic acceptance to a UC.
The UCs only have two nursing programs, which are direct-entry, and very difficult to gain admission into. I would suggest that you reconsider either your major or your school options (Maybe OOS).
As LoveTheBird noted, I suggest dropping out of the honors class and switch with a regular class, as it will significantly reduce your stress and help you not hurt your grade.
Also, do not seek UCs only. Try to find schools that really suit you. Don’t forget that just getting accepted isn’t over; graduating from that school is the next step, and it will be a tough challenge for you if that school’s programs are too difficult for you.
if you’re in a california school i dont think you need precal to graduate high shcool, is that right? (i might be confusing this with a district requirement so forgive me if it’s not the case)
you should consider applying to CSU schools. if you meet the coursework and gpa requirements it should be easy to get an automatic admission.
and as LoveTheBard said, you could go to community college and gain automatic admission to a UC too. plus it’s cheaper to finish your pre-med stuff (someone said you’re going into nursing?) with small class sizes and individualized attention.
There’s always the option of going to community college then transferring to a UC or equivalent. So, yes, there is still hope!
