I already have a bachelors degree in psychology, but I virtually have no work experience and no internships. I don't want to work in the psychology field. Would it still be possible for me to get an internship in a field like management? I'm not good at math, so business is out for me.

Have you taken any management classes or have anything to show you know something about it? If so, I think it is possible.

I am interning at a reputable firm in my city and they took me on because I took some classes so I know of the field, about the field, and have done assignments regarding it. However my supervisor had told me they don’t really consider interns who haven’t taken any classes or anything related to the field… Unless its just shadowing (which == internship). I do think you have a chance at some smaller firms, which if you land an internship there, can be a gateway to the bigger firms.

Also, I work for a very large corporation and we have a management training program for students who just graduated. You could look around some companies and see if they have anything similar. They take in all majors, but since it is competitive they prefer applicants to again have taken classes or done some previous management position.

So wait a second. You have a bachelor’s degree, but you’re looking for an internship? That doesn’t seem right… why are you not looking for full time jobs first? Also, you say you are interested in “management” but not “business.” What does that even mean? Generally speaking, you can’t manage someone if you have no industry experience, which means you’re probably barking up the wrong tree, and besides that, management is most closely associated with business. And speaking of business, who says you need to be good at math to get involved in business? There are some good management training programs, as lullabies mentioned, but again, those are associated with big business generally.

Before anyone can give you a legitimate answer, we need to know what you’re looking for. Answer some of the questions I asked above… hopefully that will clarify things for us!

I don’t have any experience so an internship would be the only route, and yes you can still do an internship if you’ve already got a bachelors program.

Why is an internship the only route? That just isn’t true.

Plenty of people get jobs with no experience… entry level jobs require a lot of training regardless of your background, and if all companies required its new hires to have internships, they would be missing out on a huge set of qualified applicants. You may want to do more research into how hiring works. Have you talked to career services at your college?
