can I take an AP class my senior year if my gpa is terrible??

can I take an AP class my senior year if my gpa is terrible?? i'm a junior and my gpa right now is like a 2.04 combined with my last two years. i've also never taken a honors or AP class. all basic and College Prep classes. so i'm asking if it's possible for me to take an AP class (1 or 2) my senior year so that if I do well in those two classes, my gpa could go up and make a difference for college. will my guidance counselor let me do this or do you need a certain gpa required to take an AP class? sorry if this is a stupid question.

My guess is that no, you cannot. But ask your guidance counselor.

It would be better to get As in regular classes than Cs in APs.

At my school there are no requirements but judging by your GPA you would probably struggle. Your school’s policies may be different however.

I think it depends on your school since every school has different policies. To be honest, if you have a 2.04 and have never taken an honors or AP level class, it might not be wise for you to suddenly take an AP.

but what if i have the motivation and confidence???

Didn’t you always have confidence and motivation? Why do you want to take AP classes? Talk to someone at your school who can advise you of the best course of action. I wouldn’t be surprised if they said you shouldn’t take AP classes. I am not sure what AP classes your school offers but most that I can think of at this moment need a good foundationin order tobdo well. To do well in a class like AP Calc you need a great math foundation and I’m not sure you built one with a 2.04 GPA.

If you have the confidence and motivation just take it. You will most likely be going to a J.C. and transferring I believe. By taking the AP class you can earn credits and graduate much faster from a J.C… If you honestly have the motivation take it no doubt, and what the above poster said is non-sense. There are many, many people who do not have motivation or confidence at first, but later on they develop it because they learn the importance of the school.

My entire point that motivation+confidence does not equal an A. If someone has both they can’t be dropped into level 6 French after getting a C in level 1 French. It is great if the OP has found motivation and confidence but that is not all it takes to get an A in some classes. I was simplying asking if the OP has always had motivation and confidence since their reply was “what if I have motivation and confidence?” If they found this motivation and confidence recently I would expect a “now” at the end of the sentence.
