Can incoming freshman take classes over the summer?

I plan on double majoring this fall, so I want to get a few general classes out of the way. Would I be able to take summer classes in Bloomington or IUSB and have the credits transfer?

What is your major? You can consider IvyTech also. In general, the best deal to to make 4/5’s on your AP tests. Next, if you are science major, the best deal is to pass your foreign language placement test. So, review that before orientation. For business major, it would be great to take M118 or M119 (if no AP Calc credit) at IUSB or the equivalent at IvyTech.

Consider taking one of IU’s “Intensive Freshman Seminar” classes. My D took one last summer and loved it. There are a number of topics. If it is like last year – you get 3 hours credit with this two-week class, held the first two weeks of August (with a week off before regular fall classes start).

It’s intense but worth it, according to my D. You live in a dorm and get to know the campus and town before the crowds hit. IFS also has social events. Two of my D’s current BFFs at IU were girls she met at IFS.

Tuition was included in your fall semester bill, so long as you only took 14 hours in the fall. Dorm/room and board costs for IFS were about $600 total as I recall – again, well worth it.

Last summer there was a link to IFS on the Admitted students page. Check it out!

Really depends on what your major is. Looked at Intensive Freshman seminar classes but they did not really help me with my major. Going to take M118 at CC and get it out of the way. Plus it is a lot cheaper for me to do it that way

IFS sounds like a good idea. My majors are journalism and business. I just would like to graduate in 4 years if possible, but both are pretty hefty majors so I’m not sure, even with my AP credits. By the time it’s all said and done, I should have most of the general ed requirements out of the way with my scores. Fingers crossed.

You should not have to guess about how many credits you need for any double major and how long it takes to do it. Use the bulletins that apply to your major and see what the requirements are. The requirements won’t change while you are in school.

IFS classes can be used to fulfill general education or liberal-arts college courses, outside your major’s courses.

Thanks for the links bthomp1. That was helpful. Now i just have to decide how busy i want to be…
