Can more graduated seniors do "actual results" threads?

Here are my results (even though I haven’t decided which school yet…)

Accepted: Tulane University, University of Rochester, Case Western Reserve, Truman State (Honors), Saint Louis U (Honors), Baylor (Honors), Southern Methodist (Honors), Temple U (Honors), UMKC (Honors)
Waitlisted: N/A
Denied: Wustl, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, UChicago (Deferred)

STATS:
GPA: 3.4 uw…
ACT: 33 Single sitting/ 34 Superscored (35M, 34E, 32R, 33S)
SAT: not as good as my ACT
AP Courses: Physics, Stats, Euro History, Calc AB, Chemistry, Computer Science
Awards: 2nd National TEAM+S, three Presidential Service awards, 3 Gold National Latin Exam, Theology award

Extra-curriculars: Ran varsity Cross country & Track for 6 years, swam for 10 years, played violin or 10 years & plays at a charity orchestra, TEAM+S (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Sciences), volunteer at hospital, tutors, founder of cricket club, shadows doctors

Recommendations: I think they were good
Essays: Some were great, others were mediocre

State: MO
School: Small Private School
Ethnicity: Asian
Income: Upper Middle Class

Reflection: With my low gpa, I expected rejections from schools like UChicago, Notre Dame etc.-- so not to upset about those. My choices are boiling down to Baylor, SMU, and URochester. I’m going to visit them to see what it’s like on the campuses.

Good luck to everyone and all future applicants!

This is so weird to now write…

Accepted: Northwestern, University of Michigan, University of Illinois at Chicago, Loyola University
Waitlisted: WashU
Denied: None

Objective:

GPA: 5.0/5.0 UW 5.917/6.0 W
Rank: 1/200
AP: Euro, US History, Chem, Bio, Spanish Language, English Language & Composition, Gov, Environmental Science, BC Calc, Physics C both, (English Lit, Macro but not taking tests)
Awards: Ap Scholar with distinction, Deans List all four years, National Merit Commended Scholar, NHS, Spanish NHS, state titles for various clubs, scholar awards in school, etc

Extracurriculars: My “thing” was Yearbook with a bunch of editorship positions, Spanish Club, Cosmo Club, Math Team all for three years, six other clubs for 1-2 years–I was just hyperactive and overinvolved myself in clubs but I never did athletics
Essays: They really brought me out, I think. I tried to write from my own earnest thoughts, and I didn’t go for wordy, intelligent attempts at impressing the offices. I wanted to say the truth and really say why I applied. My NU essay was really simple, about a campus visit, and my U of M essay was super unique, where I focused on the colors. My Common App essay was pretty good, but I’m not sure if it was enough to make myself attractive on its own (like to WUSTL)

Recommendations: One was from a teacher who adored me, but was pumping out a ton of recs so she didn’t have personal additions to it. The other was from a teacher who was VERY experienced in writing recs and has the vocabulary of a profound philosopher–Her rec was probably gorgeous

State: IL
School: Small public
Gender: F
Income: 100k
Ethnicity: Brown

Reflection: I’m feeling pretty good about myself. Kinda wished I tried for schools that really knocked out costs, as in total rides. But then again, I wouldn’t be challenging myself at those kind of schools. It’s down between NU and UIC but I’m going for NU once I get past potential costs in the future.

Reflection
Strengths: Research, activities that relate to major
Weaknesses: Test scores, essays (maybe?), competitiveness of schools
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: The schools I got rejected from were incredibly competitive this year. I wasn’t the most qualified of applicants and I am sure there were many better out there. Some essays I wrote last minute so they were pretty bad too. The essays I spent a ton of time on were Duke, Notre Dame, and commonapp.
General Comments: I am happy with my results because NOTRE DAME CLASS OF 2018. I love Notre Dame and the rejections just guided me to where I need to be. I was also super surprised I got waitlisted at Vanderbilt. They never got my subject test scores and my essay supplement for them was absolutely horrible. So yay. As for advice to everyone reading this: relax, it will be okay. I didn’t get into my first choice school and I am still very happy. Also apply to match/safety schools that you enjoy. I did and would have been happy at any school I applied to. Also don’t stress about standardized tests/over study. It’s dumb. Use that time to have fun and do stuff you enjoy! It is so worth it to have fun in high school!

Job/Work Experience: Summer internship at a public relations firm in New York, babysitting

Counselor rec: My counselor loved me - assuming it was amazing

Other:
State: California
Intended major(s): Print and Digital Major

Reflection:

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I was surprised I was rejected from BU and GW but was accepted to NYU. The college admissions process is just random, so overall the whole thing was surprising.

Reflection

  • Strengths: I really rode on the National Merit, ACT, and my job. On top of that, I have experience with what I want to do, and I was able to really push that in my essays.
  • Weaknesses: I didn’t have many activities and extracurricular, but that’s mostly because I’ve moved around a bunch
  • Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My test scores were really good for most of my schools. I didn’t really expect to get into GT because I didn’t really show much interest in the school

General Comments:
I’m super happy with my decision to attend the University of Miami. When it comes down to picking your school, make sure that you can see yourself there. I could see myself riding metro around DC at American, exploring Harrisonburg at JMU, and getting tan in Miami, so my choice was super hard. It came down to money, but even then, Miami and American were super close. I flipped a coin, it came up American, and I was disappointed, so I knew that Miami was my school

Completed senior English requirement with college coursework prior to senior year, so was able to focus on art classes during senior year to prepare for Practice of Art at 4 year college. Applied as freshman, since all CCC courses completed prior to HS graduation. Should have (or be close to) junior status after units are transferred 2nd semester of freshman year.

Reflections/advice: Yeah, to a degree it’s random. But it’s not a total crapshoot. Actually consider what school you will be a best match for. Not just an academic match. Because no one is an academic match for a school like Yale. However, I was convinced that Yale was the perfect fit for me and my passions and my ideal of a community and college environment and I tried to show them that in my essays. I think it worked. On the other hand, I don’t think I’m the greatest fit for Brown and Stanford, hence the bad news.
also, don’t just apply to every ivy. that’s just stupid.

GL to all future classes. boolah boolah!

Accepted - Boston College, Georgetown, Fordham, SUNY Geneseo, Stony Brook, and Binghamton
Rejected - Cornell (ED), UPenn, Brown, Chicago, Michigan Ann Arbor (waitlisted)

White male.
95.23 unweighted GPA, 97.66 weighted
770 Math SAT/750 Verbal/710 Writing

Excellent extracurriculars, weak essay. Rigorous senior year courseload, but unweighted GPA dropped 4 points.

I’ll be attending Georgetown.

Just doing this to help out those applying next year, best of luck!

Accepted: Princeton (Deferred SCEA, then accepted), Columbia, Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, NC State, and Georgia Tech
Waitlisted: Carnegie Mellon (Tepper)
Rejected: Johns Hopkins

White male, small public high school in a rural area, first year people got into Ivies from my school (2 of us, the other got into Brown and Duke).

4.0 unweighted GPA
~5.0 weighted GPA (4 for CP, 5 for Honors, 6 for AP)
34 ACT, 800 Math II, 740 US History

Tough schedule relative to my school, took a total of 8 APs, and I honestly thought my essays rocked it and got me in. Extracurriculars include orchestra, community service, just standard stuff, as well as a music supplement. Interview went well too (only Princeton interviewed me).

Oh and just letting everyone know, when I posted last year asking for Chance Me’s, I basically got “you won’t get in”, “high reach, move on”. Just remember that you always have a chance, just try to piece your application together so that it tells more than “I’m a test score”. You want them to look at the pieces of your application and visualize a living, breathing human being, with passion, potential, emotions, as well as faults. Be unique, stand out, and even if you don’t get in, you won’t have wasted your time in high school setting yourself apart.

I’ll most likely be attending Princeton but it is between Columbia and Princeton at this point! Good luck to everyone next year

Accepted to University of Alabama Honors College, TexasA&M, UGA Honors, LSU Honors, Colorado School of Mines, and Georgia Tech! These are all the schools I applied for so no rejection letters for me  (although I was originally deferred from GT)
GPA: 3.85
ACT 31: 34E. 33E/W, 31M, 30S, 30R
A good number of ECs but they werent all typical, but instead things I was passionate for–> fly fishing
Essays: Showed my true character- talked about being on a sinking boat in the florida keys and getting 2nd at the 2014 national fly fishing championships.
Tips: School is not everything. Of course you need to do well, but colleges want to see well rounded students. Thats the only reason I think I got into GT, CSM, and UGA Honors. Show your passion and individuality. Good luck to the future college class of 2019 in their applications next fall! And congrats to the class of 2018 on wherever you are going
I will be attending Georgia Tech next year!

Reflection
Strengths: Fantastic grades, test scores, leadership, ECs, excellent interviews
Weaknesses: Writing ability
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted: good grades, test scores
Declined: Highly selective schools, boring essays/personal life, poor high school, poor teacher recommendations

I still get upset thinking about how hard I worked to delude myself into taking a chance on some of these schools.

@evan10 You got rejected at UMich with a 35ACT, 2320SAT, and 4.0 GPA?
