HI y’all.
May 1st is coming up and i’m still thinking about which college to go to.
I got into UC San Diego as Math-CS major, UCSB as computer engineering major, UC Davis, UCI, as undeclared.
Im planning on working in the computer science industry in the future, as software developer or other software related job.
Can someone give some advice which college to go?
Are all costs for each school similar? Are finances an issue? Any personal preference?
I would choose between UCSB and UCSD since you were admitted directly into the majors. Have you done any coding?
they are all very good so, academically, there’s no wrong answer. Spend some time on each campus - one will stand out a little more.
Only consider UCSD & UCSB since you were directly admitted to your preferred major.
Best thing to do is go where you’re already accepted. CS is a very popular major and it would suck if you went to a school only to transfer somewhere else because they didn’t let you in.
Yes. Cost are the same and no financial issues.
I did a lot of coding and preferred UCSD. But I heard that this major is like all about math so I’m not really sure.
No bad decision between UCSB and UCSD. Pick the school which fits you academically, socially and financially.
Did you compare the CS curriculums for both and not go by what you “heard”?

pleasepleaseplease do NOT make a decision based on “I heard” unless you ‘heard’ it from a qualified sources (=/= another student). LOOK at the the graduation requirements for the major. How do they look to you? (one person’s too much math is another person’s not enough…).
Pull up the UCSD & UCSB programs and look at them side by side in detail- which one look more like what you find truly interesting? pick that one.
I think UCSB would be more flexible in terms of classes and professional opportunities.
However if you prefer UCSD it’s a fantastic choices too!
Look at the specific curriculum for each (gen Ed requirements, required courses, electives…)
DO pick among those two since you got into the major.
i was accepted into ERC for UCSD and I heard that people(students in UCSD that I know) find the GE is really annoying. I kinda dislike the Math-CS Major since a lot of the class requirement are math classes.
Well then, it sounds like you prefer UCSB
Congratulations!
