Thanks in advance.

Rankings? You came to the right place! Why, the Worcester (MA) Telegram & Gazette published the ISL rankings about 2-3 weeks ago:

Worcester Telegram & Gazette News

Of course, that was before mid-term exam results were in, so there's bound to be some change. That's why I advocate a playoff system for school rankings.

Out of curiosity, what do you plan to do with the rankings? What do you suppose a 1 ranking means versus, say, a 8 or a 12?

EDIT: here are the latest rankings from MaxPrep:

Here's a great opportunity to see what The Bunkel Index has to offer vs. the much more reliable WBTY Indices (which just happens to rank schools by geographic AND athletic associations). After we hear from the D'yer Maker, who we hope will avoid musical references, I'll be happy to supply both the WSJ and McFee rankings as well.

That's a good Noble's team -- beat Gunnery 42-12 in the Class B Prep Bowl.

Hate to say it but the best team in NE is Trinity-Pawling which handed Andover its hat in the Class A game.

fun is fun: He uses expressions like: handed Andover its hat.

My daughter has applied to five ISL schools. I'm just curious, there is no ulterior motive.

Thanks

1: Roxbury Latin. Good luck to your D.

the isl is a good league. lots of people go on to play in college and top academics. i am applying to two isl schools.

Where are you applying? Nobles and Belmont Hill are day schools and with the exception of Governor Dummer (fif refuses to call it Governor's Acad.) are the class of the ISL yiayo.

Best prep footy in NE: Erickson League. Take a look at AOF, T-P, Salisbury, Kent. Play for the best.

Okay guys, enough fun. I think hes asking an honest question.

Groton, St. Paul's, Milton and Roxbury Latin are at the top. Some would put Middlesex up there. St. George's and St. Mark's come next.

It's a sports league comprised of excellent academic schools. Why would you care how someone else ranks them, herb? Your daughter's applying to five of them? How does she rank those five? How do you rank them? Is there any ranking system superior to that? I use software that ranks boarding schools, but not all these schools are boarding schools.

D'yer, how the heck do you know all of this stuff? Who the heck are you? Please never leave this site! We'd be nothing without you! I'm not kidding. You really seem to have it together. Hope you're not fooling me!

I rank myself #1.

fun is fun is a distant 532.

Gotta watch fun is fun though -- ya never know!

i was gonna say st. paul's is obviously the best, but then i looked at this roxbury latin's placement: wow. 22/150 to harvard is insane. that has to be better than any boarding school.

First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.

You can look it up.

Okay, here's something productive so that this thread will be of some value to someone.

lbftw, Roxbury Latin's placement of students at Harvard is not necessarily an accurate indication of the school's academics. Many students at the school are children of Harvard professors/ administrators and therefore have a leg up in admissions. That being said, it is definitely one of the top few schools in the ISL.

"Best prep footy in NE: Erickson League. Take a look at AOF, T-P, Salisbury, Kent. Play for the best."

funisfun,
Care to comment further? I know we played AOF & Salisbury and I was not impressed with their style of play. Not high-level club style soccer (not that my son's school is either). How do these schools fare with college (particularly high-level DI) placement?
I am comfortable with our choice mainly because, while it is better fall soccer than the average local public HS (albeit it is still hs style soccer), my son is able to maintain his club affiliation. This would not be possible with the schools you listed (unless they are somehow affiliated with local clubs...i.e. Oakwood....and the boys are able to play/train in the spring there).

Obviously there is no objective answer to your question or you would have heard it already. I will take a stab at it, my opinion based on what I hear and the decisions I have seen people make when they have a choice among schools.

The "best" school may not be the "best" for any given student, not even taking into account geography which is a real factor. There are brilliant top students at all of these places, just like at good public schools, and you can get a great education, but the concentration of that academic talent varies. Some of these schools would not even be a possibility for a day student girl and many strong academic schools (Andover, Winsor, Commonwealth, BUA, CA) in the area are not in the ISL. I have grouped the schools, no order within the groups.

Milton, RL, St. Paul’s, Groton

Nobles

Middlesex, Belmont Hill

BB&N, St. Mark’s

Rivers, Brooks, St. George’s

St. Seb’s, Thayer, Governor’s

Lawrence Academy

As I said, this is an opinion. Certainly there are others.
