I gave the SAT in January and got a 1400 (760 in math and 640 in english) which looks like a good enough score, but if I want to get into UC schools, should I give it again? I’m planning on applying for a general or applied math degree so I’m not exactly sure about what I should do.
Also, I haven’t given the SAT subject test and I want to give Math 2 but I was wondering whether I should stick with doing only the math one or should I do another one as well (like physics)?
And till when can I send in SAT scores? Would it be fine if I did the subject tests in November and send the scores after the application deadline, since for UC’s it’s on Nov 30th, or should I do it earlier than that? Does it affect my application if I send the SAT score later?
Yes, take it again. You are a foreign student I am guessing. UCs are very competitive. You need high scores in all sections, no matter your intended major. You understand that you will be required to study other subjects apart from math in US colleges, right?
You should not send scores after the application deadline. If you do one subject, you may as well do another. Schools that want to see them usually ask for two.
UC’s accept up to the December SAT sitting unless they change their deadlines this year so November should be OK. Check the updated website in August to confirm.
If you are targeting a STEM major and top UC’s, retake your SAT and aim for a 1450+ and take Math II and another science Subject test.
If you are an International applicant, make sure the UC’s are affordable with little to no financial aid available. Expect to pay $60K/year to attend.
It depends on which UC. But a higher score would help in any case. For top UCs, aim for 1500+.
