<p>Prompt: Honesty is important, of course but deception can actually make it easier for people to get along. In a recent study, for example, one out of every four of the lies told by participants was told solely for the benefit of another person. In fact, most lies are harmless social untruths in which people pretend to ike someone or something more than they actually do ('Your muffins are the best!")</p>
<p>Assignment: Is deception ever justified ? Plan and write an essay .... etc</p>
<p>"I do lie, but I tell small white lies. Why ? Because they can;t hurt anyone as much as me telling them the actual truth" my cousin said to me after I inquired why she lied to our Aunt. I do believe deception can be justified. Lying is bad but some people cannot handle the truth.
Throughout my experiences in life, I have realized that deception is always used in most situations and that there is never a person who is totally honest.
For example, my cousin went through a terrible break-up with a person she truly believed she loved. During that time she needed support from me to help her get through such a painful time. My personal feelings towards this guy was bad and whenever I expressed them to hr she would get angry at me for telling the truth. In this situation I had to tell "white lies" here and there so as not to get her on her bad side. Why ? Because I cared about her.
At school, Deception is prevalent. One day my closest friend put a lot of work into making a basket of muffins for my birthday. I really appreciated what she had done for me but her muffins were terribly distasteful. When she asked me if I liked them I told her they were great and I loved them. I did this so as not to hurt her feelings or make myself seem ungrateful even though what I am saying was not true. I knew that by telling her the truth would cause her to hate me because of what I said and I valued our friendship enough even if it means lying to sustain it.
In conclusion, I do believe deception is justifiable as we humans lie most of the time because we actually care about the other person's feelings.</p>
<p>I wrote this timing myself under the 25min limit, there was no correction made and this is my first essay. Please give me your honest opinions on what you think of it, a possible SAT grade and how to improve. Thanks :) !</p>
