Can someone tell me my chances?

I'm from California. I go to a nationally recognized public high school in a suburb just outside of San Francisco.

My weighted gpa is a 3.41
My total SAT score was an 1850
My ACT composite score was a 25
Throughout high school I have taken 3 AP/Honors classes
I took a college level biology course over the summer at a local community college
I am Senior Class Vice President
I have been a high school cheerleader all 4 years (1 yr Fr, 1 yr JV, 2 yrs Var)
I am currently Head Captain of the Varsity Cheer leading squad.
I volunteered at a local hospital during my sophomore year.

Any chance?

Your GPA is a little bit low but if you go to a really good high school, that could make up for that fact if you’ve taken a tough course load.

Your SAT score is good but your ACT score is a bit low

You have a good chance but it’s definitely not a given that you’ll be accepted.

Good luck!

Do they look at the school you went to? I go to a very competitive private high school, but it seems to me that only schools that already have a relationship with us (like Penn, Haverford, GW) take that into account. I am applying to schools in the south and in California (got into USC and CoC) and I loved Clemson, but it seemed to me that they just look at the GPA, not at the specific high school. This is very discouraging to me, as it seems like I could have save my parents a lot of money and had a 4.0 from a public school. I would LOVE to hear that Clemson considers different high schools differently.

They definitely look at you highs school; I go to a very challenging private school in Baltimore and the average gpa to get into Clemson from my school is a 3.3.-3.4 so it makes a big difference.

Yeah it definitely depends on the reputation of your high school. I went to what Newsweek ranks as the 2nd best public school in Massachusetts and I was accepted with a 3.06 GPA while I know people who were waitlisted with 3.4-3.6 GPA’s (but eventually got in) and some denied with those GPA’s

Glad to hear this, but am still nervous. I don’t know anyone from my area (Philadelphia) who has ever gone (or even applied) to Clemson, so I don’t know what the admissions committee knows about schools in this area. Of course, I know that the adcom knows what they are doing, but with the huge number of applicants, they might not care about looking at each application individually. I mean they don’t even want the college advisor’s recommendation, let alone any personal essay or other recommendations.

I really, really want to get into Clemson. I went there expecting to not like it. It has a reputation here for being a very Greek, VERY southern school, full of cliques and not welcoming to outsiders. But when I went to visit, I was impressed by the fact that you can see Clemson stickers on (it seemed to me) almost every car 50 miles going into and out of Clemson. It made an impression on me that people must be very loyal to this school, which means that people had a great time/education there. I also found the people nice and not snobby. Of course, you really can’t tell until you are there, but I loved the feel of the campus (it is so beautiful) and I liked the fact that they have a good engineering program, even though this is not what I am interested in, because I think that engineers are more focused on school and not on partying (I know this is a stereotype) so that the social life there could be somewhat balanced. I don’t want a party school, and I don’t want a school where academics aren’t important to most students.

Anyway, enough of my long rant, I just want to get in very badly. When will we hear?

If you applied before December 1st, you should find out the week of February 15th. If you applied after that, it’ll be on a rolling basis after the initial admissions letters.

To answer some of your concerns about your “rant” haha, it does have a reputation for being a greek and southern school, this is true. Although the stats say only 16% of students are in the greek life system, it’s presence is huge on campus, and as for cliques, there isn’t very much interaction between greeks and non-greeks at times. The good news is that there are 300+ student organizations on campus so there are plenty of opportunities to make friends and get involved without getting involved in greek life if it’s not your thing. However, I know a lot of people who came into Clemson thinking they would never get involved in greek life but they decided to go through the recruitment process and now love it! However, you’re right, people who have gotten a degree from this school or go to this school love it and are very loyal. I think US News said that we were among the top 5 schools when it comes to the percentage of alumni who give back to the university and that shows it. There are people that are snobby but most people are friendly, unfortunately there are some ignorant and racist and unfriendly people, but they are by far not the majority. I’m majoring in civil engineering and most people know how to balance school and work. There are some people who will go and get wasted every night (usually these are not engineers or architecture majors haha) but most people are serious about their academics Sunday-Thursday and have some fun Friday and Saturday. I go to parties once in a while, am not part of the greek scene but it’s not the most important thing to me and I still manage to have a decent social life. You’ll find people here if you seek them out who are pretty dedicated to their academics.

I think the first week in february?
