Can the admissions ppl at MIT give me any advice specific to my app?

I heard caltech will if youre deferred. Would MIT do this for me?

No. From Matt McGann's Dec. 11th blog entry for deferred students:

Can I call admissions to find out The Reason why I was deferred?

If you call in, we will not be able to tell you "the reason" why you were deferred, or "what needs to be improved," simply because things are much more complex than just one reason why you were deferred. Usually, when I take a call from a deferred applicant, there's nothing that I see to be lacking or needing improvement -- most of our deferred students submitted very strong applications, the kinds of applications any school (including MIT) would love to have in their student body. Honestly.

Well it sounds like he takes calls, even if he usually cant give much help. I know they cant really tell me why I was deferred, but I have a couple of options on what I could add to my app so I was just wondering if they could tell me what theyd prefer.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that they don't likely encourage such calls. (But I'm sure they're polite enough not to hang up on an eager applicant who calls them! :) ) This being application reading season, they are probably extremely busy, though, and might not even be found at their phones. If you have some things you want to add to your app which you think are meaningful and new, send them! (That's probably what they'll tell you if you call.)

Why not post a question on Matt's blog comment section and ask him whether he'd be willing to take calls to ask about your specific application.

There's also the issue that the specific person to whom you talk on the phone is unlikely to be your file's reader, and so any specific advice you get wouldn't really be specific -- that is to say, they're not likely to say "Given the rest of your application, you should send A, B, and C, and not D," or anything like that. If you did call, you would be likely to get general advice similar to what you'd hear on the blogs.

Cheer Up CrazyGlue.....:D

Given someone went to the effort of stealing the cannon from
Caltech to bring it over to MIT and put it on the cover of
the 'Getting Around MIT' guide it would seem there is a
healthy need for things from Caltech at MIT :)

...seeing how you are admitted to Caltech maybe you send them a
subtle picture of the GAMIT with your face scanned in saying something
like "How would you like 2 priceless things from Caltech?"

Just trying to spread some cheer....being a Junior at High school
what do I know...
