Hi everyone, I’m currently a student at a CC in California and I’m planning on applying for transfer next Fall. Right now I’m debating between applying as either a Sociology major or Communications major, but my question is, if I get in as a Sociology major, will I be able to double major in Communications? I already finished all the pre-reqs for Sociology and I’m planning on taking the pre-req courses for Communications in case I decide to apply for Communications. If I have both completed by the time I transfer, will that allow me to double major in both areas?
If it’s UCLA, the answer is no. Not sure about the other UCs.
It’s not impossible, but it is fairly close. An admit would have to have completed EVERY prerequisite for both majors, apply under communications and file the double major petition during the summer after admissions.
All impacted majors at LA are not closed to transfer double majors (Communications, however, is). Students can switch in a minority at the discretion of the department advisor. Meaning you should submit the form if you are accepted, but you should not attend LA on the assumption that you will have both majors.
I was preparing for the same thing with PoliSci before I chose CAL.
There was a transfer who graduated with me from Ucla in 2015 who double majored in Comm and Sociology. She was admitted to Comm and then petitioned to add Soc once she met all the prereq requirements. I believe she officially added Sociology in the middle of her 2nd transfer year. She was at Ucla for 3 years because that’s how long it took to complete all the requirements for both majors.
In order to double major in Soc and Comm, you must be admitted to Comm and then try to add Soc. That isn’t guaranteed, but it’s possible. It won’t work the other way around. It’s 99% impossible to add Communcations as a major once you’re already admitted.
is it possible to do this for economics and/or international relations? (at UCLA)
