I'm getting ready to make the deposit for Villanova. Can I request a certain dorm? Which one is best for freshmen? Which is the nicest one?

The majority of freshman are on South with Stanford being the largest with about 500 students. The other buildings house between 120 and 240 students in each building. As a freshman you will want to be on south.
Housing is assigned in the order of deposit received , meaning the later the deposit , the less likely you will get South. Many of the wait list students end up on main or in triples (or both!).
As for which is the nicest , I would guess that there is minimal difference , stanford has a/c , dont know about the others on south.
Stanford is a lot of fun with the most students and freshman athletes housed there, but I have heard that St Monica’s was a fun dorm this year too.

The only way I know of requesting a specific dorm is to request a learning community that is in a specific dorm.I am sure students that have some connections may be able to get a specific dorm.

Bottom line ,deposit ASAP if you are attending, you will want to be on south with the other freshman or you may run the risk of social isolation early in the year.

Freshman residents may not request a specific building or type of room. In general, housing assignments are based on the date your admission deposit is processed. Other factors which guide your housing assignment may include: participation in a designated Learning Community.

Where can I find out more information about the residence hall where the program will be housed?
Leadership and Virtue will be housed on south campus for the 2010-2011 school year in St. Monica Hall with about 190 students.

Pursuit of Excellence will be housed in O’Dwyer Hall on main campus for the 2010-2011 school year. It will consist of about 80 students.

Mind, Body, and Spirit, Nature and the World, Global Community, and Art and Culture will be housed on south campus for the 2010-2011 school year in Katharine Hall.

Justice: From Adam to Eve will be housed in Delurey Hall on main campus for the 2010-2011 school year.

the nicer dorms are on south hands down…to get on south, they usually assign based off of who sent their deposit in first…also, requesting a specific learning community will get you in a particular dorm, although they change from year to year

Thank you for the replies. Can you tell me more about the learning communities. Do you recommend joining one?

I think the Pursuit of Excellence LC looks interesting, but I don’t know if it’s worth living in O’Dwyer and missing out on the South experience.

Does anybody have any insight on P.O.E., O’Dwyer, or southwest campus?

i lived on main freshman year in delurey…the sw corner buildings are all pretty small, so you really know everyone there pretty well…you really develop a sense of community…however, you really do miss out on the true freshman experience on south…yes, the learning communities are great, but i would take a place on south over a learning community every day and twice on sunday…seriously go for south

pros: dorm gets really tight, near Campus Corner (shorter walk to food than the PIT when you’re really lazy or there’s a snowstorm outside and you don’t wanna tunnel through the fields), near basketball court, near CEER if you’re an engineer, you get away with a lot of things since it’s on main (security is not as uptight as it is on south since it is a high concentration of crazy new freshmen)

cons: away from other freshmen (i really wanna stress upon this cuz it’s different when you LIVE near everyone, it’s more convenient to see particular friends more, do homework and study together etc. just think of it as having a long-distance relationship, it’s just easier when you’re closer-- i had friends in the beginning of the yr i thought i was gonna be so closer to, but wasn’t since they were so far and it was just easier being friends with people near me), no AC (which isn’t too bad if you and they roomies bring a ton of fans)

honestly i know kids who lived in the simpson delurey o’dwyer area who never really stayed in their dorm and basically lived on south so if you’re scared about missing the freshmen experience, it’s all up to you and how committed you are to walking down there and trying to have one

I applied for the Global Community LC, so I’m hoping I get put in Katharine Hall (although Stanford looks pretty nice. I visited a Katharine Hall dorm, and it was small but still quite large for two people.) Fortunately, my second choice LC is also in the same dorm, but as it seems (and I should definitely knock on wood), not many people are applying for Global, or not as much as Leadership and my second choice, Mind, Body, and Spirit at least, so I hope I’ll get into Global.

For anyone who recently sent in their deposits, my Housing Contract took some three/four days to pop up under my financial aid link.

heads up to katherine and st mo’s kids, you’ll probably have 2 roommates (be in a triple)

yay forced triples

I just got off the waitlist, If I send in my deposit in the next couple of days am I screwed will I most likely not get on south?

expect a triple or being thrown on main. or both.
but campus corner is awesome so no worries :)
