Hi, I am a junior at one of the most competitve and highly classed private schools in the country. It is a very small and wealthy school, and the most prestigious in Missouri.

There is no official class rank taken in my school due to the level of the students.
I would be in the top 30%, however, of 160 students if there was a ranked system.

I am a very hard worker, and I have made 1st or 2nd honor roll in each semester of my high school career at this very difficult institution.

I plan to take both of these tests again because these were without preparation. I just signed up for a class and tutor, so they should def. improve alot.

suggestions are welcome if I am out of my mind!
Thanks alot!

i think you have a slim to no chances at these schools. Your grades are too low for these institutions. You ecas arent that strong and they do not stand out. Your standardized test scores are also low for these schools. Also if chances are also weakened if your rank doesnt seem at least in the top 10% of your school (i know that your school doesnt rank). Do something that stands out of this competitive pool of applicants!

Sorry for being so harsh, i was just trying to be as honest as possible.

Unfortunately, I can't say that you have a sure chance for any of those schools. Your GPA and test scores are a little on the low side, but then again, they only make up 2/7ths of what colleges look for. If you have your mind set on athletics, USC would probably serve you best. If you're especially talented in wrestling or football, you might even get a scholarship.

thnx for the feedback, i know its a longshot and all, but I was just wondering about it. My school is really weird I guess, I've seen people with not much more than me get into UVA and Emory and stuff, and for some reason my college counselor is under the impression that a few of those are in reach.

Thnx for the input,

any more suggestions on what i need to add to my transcript?

Your counselor may have an established relationship with some of these colleges - and you your hs may have a very good rep. The most important school on your list is your safety - in this case Clemson. The rest of the schools look like reaches or reachy matches (not knowing the inside information your GC may have).

The only thing that would worry me is that competition will be stiffer next year than this - and I sometimes wonder if GC's react to new information quickly enough. IMO, I think that finding a college or two that is midway between Clemson and the rest of your list might not be a bad idea. Nothing wrong with reaches as long as you've got a good foundation.

Oh, about the wrestling - talk to your coach about colleges - you might be a good candidate for an athletic bump in.

you need a wieghted gpa higher than 4.0 (4.4 would be good). that is why its important to take more ap classes. there will be many applicants applying to those schools who would complete over 8 aps courses by the time they graduate hs.

Ya our school has a very good rep with most of those schools...put it this way...they have gotten kids with GPA's below a 3 and SAT scores of about 1200 into Washington University. That says something about the rep...but anyways thnx for the responses, they help alot.

About senior year grades - yes - get all A's. Furthermore, plan to get them all the way through senior year. If you are waitlisted - as many were this year - even your final grades may come into play.

You need to talk to your college counselor about your choices and see if he has some other suggestions as well. Many private schools keep a "college book" with data on all the kids who have applied to colleges in the past years, and you can see if this info tells how kids are received from your school with your stats . Otherwise your counselor can go down the schools and assess them with you based on the school's experience with those colleges. I can tell you off the top of my head that UVA is not a likely school at all for you as they weigh gpas very heavily and do not tend to give latitude to private school transcripts. I have seen this personally with kids from my son's prep school. Often the counselor has relationships with the adcoms at some schools, usually the smaller ones that can get a student into a school that generally are a reach with given stats.

so is my transcript basically pretty bad if I am trying to get into a top school such as those listed. You can be as honest and as harsh as possible...

For a top prep school, your transcript is not bad. So colleges that know your school will give you some leeway on it. They will tend to look at the whole picture. UVA probably will not , based on my experience and knowledge. Also the UCs are not really good choices unless you have a CA residency as they take very, very few out of staters. UNC, the same. If you like the big state schools, Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana are possibilities as well as Arizona and Penn State. I know kids with your stats from a private school getting into those schools, but you should get those apps out as early as possible.
