.Can you transfer from a CSU to a UC? If so, is it possible to do it after freshman year or do you need to 60 units?

Not very easily. There’s been some anecdotal evidence that it can be done, but it’s not very common. The main reason it’s difficult is that UCs are set up to accept transfers from community colleges, and have articulation agreements that provide for a smooth transition. UCs give priority to CCC transfers. Most students who transfer have 60 units.

It probably could have been done about 10 years ago, but with all the budget cuts and programs and campuses being impacted, I’d imagine it would be almost impossible. I think they give more priority to incoming freshmen and transfers from California Community Colleges.

I was looking at doing the same after this next full school year but I realized it would be a lot harder for CSU students.

I hate to put it like that, but I think our generation got completely screwed as far as college goes and how much more difficult it is even when you have the grades that make you more than qualified.

A long time ago, it seemed as long as you had a good GPA, California residents were almost guaranteed to get into the major universities in the state of California. Over the last 10 years, it seemed to go away from that as the years went on little by little until we got where we are today.

Matt, I have to agree with you. The CSU & UC situation is indeed a sad state of affairs. My D is graduating from HS early and can probably get into a UC but wants to start college in the spring…UC’s do not admit in the spring so she is probably going to go CSU (if they do admit in the spring, budget cuts may affect spring admissions at some CUS’s).

Last year I believe the average GPA of SDSU admits was 3.8, when I went to college all you had to do was apply with a HS diploma and you were basically in. Nothing about the college process is easy these days, getting in is one thing and then you get out, hope and pray you can get a job…and if you have loans, it is even harder.

This is my second kid, and second year in a row of this process and I am truly exhausted, thank god I have not more kids!
