Hello, I am from Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in Vancouver, and am wondering if there are also other ppl from my school (or anywhere else in canada) who are accepted, attending, applying or thinking of applying to the top universities in US (Harvard, Stanford, Yale...). Post ur stats!!!

How much more difficult would it be for an international applying for financial aid to be accepted into one of those elite colleges compare to let's say US residents not applying for financial aid? Perhaps a comparision of stats here would be helpful???

yeah, I want to know that ,too

Ophelia1
how long have you been doing the IB?

if the school doesnt claim need blind, the odd will be 1/3 to 1/10 vary (a guy who graduate from my school said that, dont really that reliable)

My school is an IB school and last year there were 3 people who went to Cornell, and one to upenn. All full IB HL. EC's: Math/Science Intl. Olympiads, Debate/Model UN ~93% GPA and ~2200 SAT 800/800 SAT II's. That's about it. This is in Calgary BTW

what do you mean by full IB HL? I get full IB ( diploma)...but the HL part? I thought only individual classes were HL. Is there such a thing as a whole HL curriculum?

anybody got into Stanford?

I mean all of the courses were Higher Level

wow...thats amazing, I didn't even know that was humanly possible haha....we're allowed to take 4 HL max. ( and even then, you need high grades and teacher recommendations for your HL subjects). What classes did they take...cause if its stuff like physchology HL then...not that impressive, but if its like math HL, chem Hl and physics Hl then...VERY impressive

Yeah 4 HL max in my school. My friend takes Math HL Chem HL and Physics SL though :D

wow.. math and chem HL...tough combo. I'm doing Math HL, amongst other HL, and its a tough class.

Oh... We don't have a limit.

I take Math HL, Music HL and german A2 HL ^^

aww we don't have IB music at my school, nor german....but we do have...meh...we don't have anything, my school blows...

lol dont worry ours does too ^^

wow, never knew there can be IB music and arts too. Anyways, how likely is it for a person with the following stats to get into elite US colleges such as Harvard and Stanford? I am just going to gr. 11 so below are just my approx. stats:

SAT I: aiming for 2300 or above
Courses: IB Math HL, IB Physics HL, IB Bio HL, IB Chem HL, IB History HL, IB English SL, IB French SL (hoping i can get mostly 7s for all of them...though need to work REALLY hard...)
STRONGLY COMMITTED EC's: Violin, Math Contests (74 on 2006 Euclid)
FILLER EC's: Model UN, UNICEF, Amnesty International, ESL teacher, swimming, badminton, youth orchestra (not anymore), school play, Marketing Manager in grade 12, etc, probably somemore, dun remember
Teacher Rec's: not gonna be great unless i work hard
Essay: Pretty confident about this one

Yea...nothing special...my EC's are kinda depressing, just hoping that my essays can round up my apps.

Just a note: there are far better colleges out there than simply the "ivy/top 25" schools in the United States. In fact, people who receive a four-year education at smaller Liberal Arts Colleges tend to perform much better when competing a space at graduate school.

At top Liberal Arts colleges like Williams, Bowdoin, Davidson, and Colgate, students often benefit from the rich, close-knetted undergraduate experience, and the extra time and attention LAC professors devote to their students' learning (unlike what one now would get at large, elite institutions like Harvard and Columbia, where professors solely devote their time on their individual research projects, rarely taking the time to train their students).

One final word: don't let the "public prestige" or "international fame" guide your college list.

getting 7s in 5 HL and 2 SLs is no easy task, so you might wanna avoid asking chances with those until you actuaklly have your official predicted grades ( universities won't have your really IB grades when you apply, so only predicted matter at that moment).
