Canadian International Transfer

Currently at a Canadian undergraduate school (about to finish my first year). Curious if it would be possible to transfer to a US institution, and what I should be doing now to increase my chances, etc.

If this is the wrong board I apologize (wasn't sure if it should go in int'l students forum).

I am doing the exact same thing. It’s actually no different from a U.S to U.S. transfer.

Oh awesome. Anything you can tell me about it? Not even sure where to start lol.

I’m about to finish my first year (doing biology, chemistry, and non calc-based physics). I was originally gonna do pre-med but I really want to do physics now and will essentially need to start over in the fall with calc based physics. I am planning to do the first year physics courses at my institution but after that first year THEN I want to transfer (so still more than a year away).

Are some schools more open to intl transfers than others? So far my grades are ok, my GPA is 3.5 but that’s only from 1 semester (still not done 2nd).

Bumping this.

If you want to go to a good school, you’ll need to transfer after your sophomore year at the latest. Most schools don’t accept current juniors as transfers.

Well I’m not. I guess technically I would be transferring AFTER my sophomore year at the latest. But since I’m kind of starting fresh with physics it would essentially be me transferring after my freshman year. I dunno if the schools will see it like that.

Bumping this.

They will look at the number of credit hours you have, not your level in a certain subject. The very latest time that you can transfer (usually) is starting at the new school the fall of your junior year.

Well then that is what I’d like to do. Any info on how?

I’m Canadian too, and I’m thinking of doing the transfer thing starting from a 2-year community college in the US… would I be at a better advantage going from a US CC to a US university rather than starting at a Canadian CC/university?

I’m not sure but please don’t get my thread off topic, you can always make your own

Um… the hell?

It’s not like there are people clamoring to answer your thread so it doesn’t matter what I ask, and if they answer my question it doesn’t mean they won’t answer yours. My question is relevant to this topic so I will do as I please. You want to delete it go ahead and try.

Does anyone know if I need to take the SAT’s or anything? We don’t have them in Canada. Will they even want to look at my high school marks?
