Canadian Transfer to NYU FALL 09 - Questions!

Is it only me or is this whole transfer process confusing?

So I’m planning on transfering to NYU for Fall 2009.
I have questions that the people at admissions had TROUBLE answering on the phone. Here they are!

What’s the deal with financial aid? I live in Canada and don’t have 50,000 dollars. Apparently I can’t fill out FAFSA, so what are my options?

Is housing guaranteed?

In my application, do I say how many credits I had from LAST YEAR ONLY, or do I include the credits I got from semester 1 of this year? What about the credits from semester 2 of this year? Do I send those in when I get them?

Recommendations: Do I need a college profs recommendation? Is this common? It’s not like I’m close with my profs (huge lecture theatre classes), so are they used to being asked for recommendation letters for people they hardly know? I’m confused about that

And what about high school recommendations? Do I need a teacher’s recommendation or a guidance counsellor’s?

I think that’s it for now
Thanks ahead of time!!!

I'm an NYU freshman. Yep, the transfer process is so confusing...

Most Americans don't have $50,000 to spare. Apply for loans, look for scholarships available for internationals, and don't get a dorm. A studio apartment in Greenwich village near campus can come for $250 a month, as opposed to $12,000 for a year at NYU. Studio apartments are more spacious than dorms, and you won't feel like an outsider, because at NYU there's no real 'campus' so everyone wakes up from there dorms and walks to 'campus' just like you will, if you get an apartment nearby. Just what I would do - if you want a dorm, go for it. A lot of upperclassmen commute. Also, don't get a mealplan, it's mostly freshman who do.

I was told housing is guaranteed from freshman yr and beyond, as long as you don't commute ever. If you choose to live off campus for a semester, you are no longer guaranteed housing. The rule might be different for internationals, but I have a feeling it won't be guaranteed.

Not sure what you mean - aren't all your credits listed on your transcript? Your midterm report will say all your current classes/credits.

It should say whether or not you need a reccomendation on the application, did you look at it yet? I know freshman need one. It's pretty common for colleges to ask for one professor reccomendation. I doubt you'll need any high school reccomendations, although they might want your high school transcript. If you're applying as a soph transfer, more weight will be put on HS, if you're a junior/senior, they won't care about HS as much.

NO, housing is not guaranteed for transfers

YES, you do need one rec. from a prof...plan on taking a small class and making a good impression
