My high school grades were not great (3.6 gpa/ 1310 SAT) but I attended James Madision University w/ a 3.98 G.P.A and I'm at community college now w/ an A average. Do they take off points for having attended more than one college?

My background is kind of weird: I went to JMU one semester, then studied art abroad in Italy and now I'm at community college for a year. I'm also a professional artist who shows work in galleries and stuff.
I really really want to transfer to NYU in the spring. Do you think there is any chance I could get in???
Oh and another thing: I can't afford NYU. Do they offer any aid to transfers??
Thanks!!!

I just received my acceptance to NYU, but their financial aid package is one of the worst I've ever seen. Even though it is my dream school, I don't think I can afford the close to $40,000 per year they want. I'm pretty damn depressed right now and I wish money wasn't such an important factor.

SMan, they gave you your financial aid award with your acceptance letter? that's pretty fast...

but anyways, if you don't mind telling, what is your EFC? i just wanted a good estimate of how much money i would be getting also if i were to be accepted..

i got my financial aid award with my acceptance too. it isn't the worst i've seen, but it was pretty bad. the only money they gave me was in the form of merit scholarships though, no real financial aid...

I applied for undergrad and was given a horrible fin.aid package in terms of my efc. I was given a 13K scholarship, 4000 workstudy, and the rest was to be covered in loans. Mind you the work study would be impossible since many colleges recommend you to do a max of 2k in work study. NYU is known for horrible fin. aid, and this is why many choose not to attend NYU.

thanks for responding! I had no idea the financial aid at NYU was so terrible. I'm sorry SMan....I know how you feel. I've been accepted by several schools that I couldn't attend because of the cost. Tuition is becoming insane! Has anyone heard of any competitive colleges that have a lot of aid $ for the spring?

and....does anyone know if I could even get in to NYU or similar schools? I can write a good essay and I've got art to help me out...but my stats aren't the strongest.... I want to go somewhere w/ great academics and a strong art program. I'd love some advice.

hazelrah, i'm very sure you'll get into NYU. there are tons of schools out there. just take the time to research which one would be the best fit for you.
