Candidates, meet "that guy"

mom3boys: Your son should not need any civilian clothes until after Beast. Cadets usually travel home in cadet casual (army polo shirt and khaki trousers). We took clothes (contact lenses and cell-phone) up on A-Day. I believe that new cadets can store items in the trunk room until after Beast.

Plebes cannot wear cadet casual and must leave in the seasonal dress uniform, ie White over Grey or Dress Grey, but can change once they are off post

Thanks for the correction Frijoles!

Haha, no worries. I wish we could wear cadet casual... Up until last year everyone could leave in civilian clothes

you cant leave in civilian clothes anymore? That is absolutely the most awesome thing I've heard today, you just made my corner of Baghdad a little more bright. And here I was, convinced that "the Corps Has..."

Ha well I am glad I could do that for you. You should be pleased with the rest of the changes they made this year too....

ScreamingEagle:
stay safe--!!

Nothing brings me more joy than an increase in the agony of cadets, so long as it occurs after my time there has passed. Just remeber, it builds character, what doesnt kill you only makes you stronger, you'll be a better person for it, etc etc...
It'll all go by pretty quick and then you can look back and laugh, hell, I remember back when you could wear sweats in the mess hall for dinner (before the running suit, ohhh yeah). That one lasted all of one semester of my experience. In reality though, there is a reason for a lot of the stuff that seems stupid, you'll see it when you get out in the Army, because if it can be done, Soldiers will find a way to do it. If you think Cadets are bad, you havent seen anything yet. But yeah, I know it can be tough.

Shogun, I"ll stay safe, it's what I do.

This guy just doesn't get it.

Here are a couple of his posts from NewCadet.com:

"i knew west point was the place for me since i was a little kid. this is the only place i applied because i knew i would get in. i'm not scared if a few west point geeks get on these forums and try to haze us!"

"my parents published an article in the Yuma sun about my acceptance, and i'm getting all sorts of threats because of it...."

"as a cadet of 2012 I'm going to do our class proud and not let any of them get me down! lets show them we're the best class yet!"

^^^Oh my!! He has nerve if not common sense. :D

It is pretty small minded for a group of individuals to attempt to curb a candidate's enthusiasm. It is trait which will allow him to arise above the pack.

...it's as if he's thrown down the gauntlet. Oh my.

No one ever rose to the top hiding 'under the radar'.

HA! I went and looked at newcadet.com. What a riot!!!! Someone is telling new cadets "when the cadre yell at you, yell back." OMG! I can't wait to hear how that turns out for them!!

USNA69, there are times to shine, and there are times to make your superiors look shiny. I think R day is a time to shut up and do what you're told. Son will hold back (my opinion) until Buckner...then he will probably amaze and astound with his ability to set up tents in the dark and in the rain, tie amazing knots, and build fires without matches. Later, he'll leap over tall buildings in a single bound, but that's for another day.

I'm not talking about being a Boy Scout. I am talking about spirit and enthusiasm, even directed at those 'superiors'. But what would I know??

Oh, they're supposed to show spirit and enthusiasm on R day?? They're all scared sh**less....I thought they were just supposed to make sure they don't throw up. My bad! = )

Milton just called the cadre "West Point Geeks." Uh oh

any chance Milty is just made up? Maybe it's someone at WP playing a joke? Or maybe it's a USNA joke? Surely this is not for real??

Guys, can we knock this off. He isn't even here to defend himself and he does have a point. If the cadre is so small minded to go after someone for a home town news release, I have lost a lot of respect for WP. I thought it was a great article, full of positive eagerness. I would rather see a class of Miltys than a class full of candidates sticking their head in the sand, afraid to be recognized. He will do well. Those who hide have catching up to do.

Give the kid a break.
