Hi everyone,
I’m stuck between the University of Florida and University of Washington for engineering. National and international prestige is very important to me. The cost is not a problem at all so please no advice based on that.
I’m also looking for a ‘fun’ school where the stress is kept at a minimum. I get that stress in college is inevitable but I want the experience to be as enjoyable as possible.
Just which is the better overall school? Anything helps.

Oh, also which school generally has the least annoying people? Ain’t nobody got time for that…
The two schools are peers, there isn’t much of a difference.
“Prestige” wise, UW is better known in the Northwest/west coast, while UF will be better known in the Southeast/east. Most of the rest of the country it’s about the same.
Annoying people? Neither has more than it typical at a state flagship university.
Your choice of major may influence which school to choose. Otherwise, choose the one that’s cheapest, or the one in the region of the country you want to live and work in.
Good Luck!
College rankings are opinions, and there are about as many opinions as there are people. Analysts with opinions predicted the presidential election, and that didn’t go so well. The only real fact about college is cost. If it’s ABET accredited, then the degree programs are standardized with little or no distinguishing differences. It’s certainly not worth paying triple the cost of tuition to go out of state.
I think that where you think you want to live and work after graduation is a factor. For example, in the Southeast, most folks know that UF has truly been on the rise in recent years. We know very little of the University of Washington. If you think that after graduation, you will be knocking on doors in Florida or the Southeast and “competing” with UF/UGA/FSU grads for jobs, you might better suited having a degree from UF. My recommendation is visit both and the decision will probably become very clear.
