If I'm ever accepted into these schools, would you advise me to bring my car? I know SDSU has a transit that covers most of San Diego. Not sure about UCSD and UCLA.

I looooove the beach, which is one reason why I'd want to bring my car. I'm looking forward to taking surf classes in college :D

Have you ever been to any of these schools? I visited UCLA about a year ago and walked around the campus. I also went to the art museum on campus and the one nearby. Personally, I thought you could walk most places or go by bus. I didn’t have the beach in mind, so yeah. Definitely bring your car if you want to go to the beach. Plenty of people will probably try to bum a ride off you since I don’t think most people will bring their cars as freshmen staying on campus.

I can’t say anything about SDSU/UCSD. I kind of feel ashamed for never having been to San Diego, lol.

Yeah I’ve been to SDSU and UCSD recently. Visited UCLA when I was in middle school.

You should definitely visit San Diego sometime. I live nearby, and love it. It’s my favorite place in the whole world. They don’t call it America’s Finest City for nothing ;)

SDSU parking is far cheaper than the UCs. So if I go to SDSU I’ll probably bring my car. All my roommates are going to use me for transportation haha. Hey, maybe that’s a good thing? I could meet more people I suppose :P

You won’t be able to get a parking permit at UCLA, so you can’t bring a car with you unless you live off campus in a place that has parking available or you buy a spot from someone in Westwood village (not cheap - but then again, neither is UCLA parking for the lucky few who get it)

check to see different plicies costs, but if you can get around walking/biking or using bus i say go that route. saves so much money on gas, insurance, reparis, parking, etc

This can possibly be recouped by having all the peers that bum rides off you pay for gas or be the ones to pay for parking while you’re out. If you are okay with sharing the car with some friends, then they may also be able to help pay the insurance premium or chip in for not-so-costly repairs or maintenance.

Well I’m not in college yet but I’m planning on taking my car. In southern California there is transportation so I’d imagine you would be okay getting to things nearby campus but anything further than would probably be difficult even just to the beach. I haven’t really gone on any of the public transportation but just to give you an idea my friends took a bus from west Hollywood up to Valencia which is about a 45 minute drive but taking the bus it ended up being 2 hours with all the switching they had to do.

I once took a public transportation bus to the next town over to go to their movie theatre with friends (during a Summer before I had my license and parents couldn’t take me) and what would normally have been a 30 minute jet on the freeway turned into 2 hours too. I felt like I would never get there. I like it drive everywhere now with very few exceptions. My time is worth it and if I was planning to have as much study time and social time as possible, I would go some lengths to try and bring a car with me to school.

Hahah well I’m definitely going to try to avoid buses. I probably will end up bringing my car. I don’t want the hassle of the public transport system. Thanks for the info guys!
