Career Fair Info. Sessions

If there's an info. session listed for a specific company and it doesn't say pre-select only or anything like that, is it appropriate for anyone to RSVP and attend to learn more about the company? Has anyone attended one that says "General Company Info." thats for an hour or two. Is it a company presentation or just some people there to say hello to and ask questions? Any insights would be appreciated.

I’ve attended those before - generally, recruiters make a presentation, and sometimes take questions. Generally not a lot of opportunities for one-on-one interaction with recruiters, but definitely the right thing to do to learn more about the company :)

Thanks. Most of the sessions say casual dress like jeans, shorts, sandals. Do people generally follow that and dress in nice jeans or is everyone dressed up in suits?

Business casual at the least.

Really? On tartan trak for the info. session, it says for dress code: Casual (jeans, shorts, crop pants, no socks/hose, athletic shoes, sandals, etc.). It sounds like they really mean casual. Would you still dress up in business casual?

If it’s like a tech company you can probably do casual, but I’d still look neat. Maybe a sweater and dark, clean jeans?

You don’t have to wear a suit. You should look presentable, though, at least if you’re actually interested in the company.

I went to a Penn info session dressed in shorts, moccasins, and a sweatshirt with my hair thrown up. Not the best idea, because everyone else there was more dressed up. (One guy came in a suit, which was also a bad idea because he was the only one.) Because I go to to boarding school and dress nicely during the day, I usually wear more comfortable clothes in the evening, and I wasn’t thinking that I should dress more nicely for this college event.

As CalDancer says, really great way to get info on the company.

If you’re really gong ho on this one company (and already have a very specific reason other than the name of the company), then you can shoot the recruiter an email in advance let them know you’re looking forward to the event and will be dropping a resume. You can then ask if s/he is scheduling any on campus interviews or has availability to meet briefly to introduce yourself. It’s a bold move – but it can be favorable if you have a really strong interest in a specific internship.

Overall, these are info sessions and a box for dropping resumes before or after the event. Iffy if it’s appropriate to even attempt meeting the recruiter before or after. Before is risky-they are busy setting up. After, ok as long as you’re not one of 20 - then why bother? Just send a thank you email right after-- so perhaps when they hit their hotel that night , yours will be the first note they see. Thanks you should ALWAYS have something specific you heard that got you (more) interested.

Good luck
