i guess people applying next year might like some stats:

-3.7 unweighted gpa, hardest possible classes. i go to college full time plus high school half time. my college grades pretty harshly - the average gpa really is a C, and an A is usually 98%+. since i am doing dual enrollment, my college grades are calculated into my high school gpa, which brings me down quite a bit. also, my dad died suddenly right before my junior year, and my overall gpa that year was something like a 3.5 down from a 3.9, but then i "got back on the horse" and got an A average my fall quarter in college (senior year). i tried to explain all this on my application, but i didn't want to seem whiny. in retrospect, i probably should have emphasized this more.
-2210 sats.
-top 10% of my class (unweighted rank).
-seven aps overall...the most at my school. the valedictorian has four overall.
-i thought my ECs were decent, but now i am not so sure. also, i work 25 hours a week, while going to school more than full time.
-everyone who read my main common app essay really liked it, and i also thought it was pretty good. but now i am not so sure, haha. it was about my father's death, but it wasn't a typical "death" essay. if anyone wants to read it they can pm me.
-i think my recs were okay.
-my efc was very low, so maybe i was part of the "need-aware" thing. who knows. maybe i will have better luck with grinnell's need blind admission policy.
-oh, and i am a white female. from washington.

now i reallllllllllllllllllllly want to get into grinnell. pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease.

Congrats, Domer, on getting into your first choice! And, andreaaaaaa, I'm so sorry! I just checked the thread to see if you'd heard. I've got all appendages crossed for you with Grinnell.

Fat packets mean good news. I was accepted and financial aid was better than I expected so...we'll see!

780m, 760cr, 720wr, ~3.9 uw GPA, 12 APs at graduation (4 5s on AP exams on application), major physical disability, from North Carolina, visited and interviewed, no idea about the quality of my recommendations or essays compared to everyone else...ECs were my soft spot but I founded and was president of two small clubs including an ultimate frisbee club.

OOOOOOOOOH GOD!!! ACCEPTED!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH this is one of the best days of my lifeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! i got into two out of three of my top choices. ahhhhhhhhhhhh, now i just have to decide...

IN!! white male from iowa, 32 act, 4.0 gpa, toughest schedule at decent public school, tennis and cross country, speech and debate, and several jobs. My friend also got in. 29 act, 3.8 gpa, basically same schedule, and they wanted him for football. My aid package was really disappointing though. Is there any way that can be challanged? Or could I at least ask them to review it?

thanks guys. if i don't get into grinnell i don't know what i will do, ugh. but i am sure it will all turn out fine in the end. i will end up wherever i end up, and in a few years, i bet i will forgot i ever applied to carleton, haha.

Waitlisted. It was tragic. I hadn't even visited - was planning on doing so if I got in, but obviously not if I got rejected, but what am I going to do now? bleh.

apathy, i don't mean to be "debbie downer", but i think only twenty or so kids out of around 500 get off the waitlist. soooo....i would save your money.
