I posted over on the Summer Programs forum, but no takers... So I would like to ask, has anyone's kid attended Carleton's CSSI (Carleton Summer Science Institute)? How was the experience?

My daughter attended last year and she and we thought it was a worthwhile experience. I believe it was the first year it was offered, which might explain why you have not had responses as of yet.

The 36 kids divided into three groups and rotated through three one week courses in different science subjects. The professors were very good and engaged socially with the kids, with various activities scheduled during the week and on weekends. The quality, intelligence and diversity of the kids was strong as well. They lived three to a room in dorms and socialized together throughout.

My daughter was homesick for much of the time, though she is that kind of kid, and once she had time to reflect, she took a lot out of the experience, both in terms of seeing science topics taught at a high level, but in having a peer group of supersmart, social kids.

I hope that helps, but please PM or reply with any specific questions you may have.

so, did you go? can u give me some feed backs if you did?
Mine was accepted, but ended up not attending. Instead she went to Operation Catapult at Rose-Hulman.
The thread is 5 years old. Doubtful that the OP is still around to answer.
I am the OP. (scary that I am still around to answer!)
Oops, intparent! I didn’t notice that, sorry! It’s rare that the OP of a resurrected post is still around but I should have been more observant.
And it’s not scary at all that you’re still here. It’s one of CC’s strengths that posters stay here long after their kids have gone through the college application process.
Youngest is a college soph with possible grad school in her future, so I will have a good excuse for a few more years.
