and the person who picks up the phone most likely does not do any of the manual work involving sending the decisions out to others
so if you ask him or her when they send notifications, that person will say the date that was defined since the beginning of this whole application process: December 15
but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will send it that late

I would love to believe everything you are saying, but I’ve called multiple times. The first lady (from a few days ago) told me that the results could be received anywhere between the Saturday that just passed and the 17th, whereas the person today said the 17th. I can’t help but believe the person who fed information later in the process.

Oh also, I’m ED I to MCS. I think academically, I have the credentials to be accepted, but they don’t look only for academics.

Actually on the CMU website, it clearly says students will be NOTIFIED by the 15th

I’m crossing my fingers it’ll come in the mail tomorrow.

Aaand, not at 12AM EST

Thought someone said they manually do it when they get to work. Maybe in 8 or 9 hours???

No no no no no. Stop getting my hopes up. We’ll find out on the 15th.

So, quick question: Was a 900-word supplemental essay fit to one page too much? Because I had so much to say about CMU’s programs, majors, and opportunities that I couldn’t leave much of anything out. I was still concise (in my opinion), but yeah, it’s still 900 words! D:

My counselor thought that 700 was a good amount; but I’m sure that if its well written and everything in there adds to your case, it’s not gonna hurt.

Thanks for your email to the Carnegie Mellon University Office of Admission.

The Where am I in the Process website will release your admission decision on December 15 at the earliest of December 16 at the latest. Continue to check this site:

Best regards from Carnegie Mellon’s Office of Admission.

Ah that just made me so anxious.

if the decisions get posted online on dec 15th. then that means that they were sent on the 12th. So for people who live near PA might get it earlier in the mail? maybe?

Perhaps they’ll get it today like the people living in PA did for the Class of 2013.

As a Mom, I have been reading along with all of your agony awaiting the decision letters. My son is also ED I candidate and we can’t wait to hear. CMU is a great school, my son loved it when he was there this summer for Pre-College, cementing his decision to apply early decision.

OK, but I need your advise: This is something none of you want to think about, but with the admission rates so low, especially to SCS, what would you want your parents to do/say if you are deferred… or worse?

Reading your posts, I think your love of CMU must have come through to the admission committee, and hope I will be celebrating with each and every one of you. You are a special group of students who will do well no matter where you end up.

Parents are just as excited as you all are for the decisions, and of course we all think you will make super CMU students, but we’d like some input on what to say if the the decision is not in your favor.

To be honest, the best reaction to a deferral or a rejection would be to not throw a huge fit; just sympathize or the like. I’ve known people from my school that have tried committing suicide after being rejected from their top Ivy-Leaguer and getting completely wailed on by their parents.

A few years back when my son was deferred from MIT - I left him alone for a few minutes - then asked him if he wanted to talk about it. He didn’t - I respected that. He was busy texting his friends. He left within 15 minutes to meet up with some friends.

As you know - there is no right or wrong answer. You as a mom will know what to do. You were kind enough to come on here and ask for help. I’m sure you will find the right way to deal with it.

Eventually my DS1 was rejected at MIT and now is a Junior at Northwestern and has never looked back - he has done fantastically.

DS2 is awaiting this EDI for Carnegie. But being the second child to go thru this - it is easier and I have talked to him the entire way. HE already has a plan if he is rejected or deferred. Possibly your son has a plan as well.

Good luck!!!

Sorry to disappoint…

I live in a suburb of Pittsburgh, just checked my mail and nothing from cmu

Don’t stay anything. Just a hug if that’s something you normally do in your house. Some guys don’t hug ?

There’s nothing you can say in those first few moments of shock.

My sister graduated last year from Dartmouth. She cried her heart out when she was rejected ED from Princeton and then rejected RD from a bunch of others like Harvard and Yale.
I was still in middle school then – I think my mom overdid it-- she had made her favorite food that night online decisions were coming out - . I remember that my sister did not sit with us for dinner that night.
It was supper awkward which is why i remember and it wasn’t even about me.
