I know that Carnegie Mellon’s computer science program requires a ton of math. However, for undergraduate admissions, how necessary are math extracurricular? It seems like everyone who gets in SCS is at least an AIME qualifier. Would it still be possible for me to get in even though I have no math extracurricular and took Calculus AB junior year, but took Honors C, H MVC, H linear algebra, and discrete math my senior year?
hell no, not everyone at SCS is an AIME qualifier. Everyone who is breezing through classes are probably AIME qualifier. The rest of us are struggling with the math.
So yes, it is possible to get in with no math extracurricular. Having math extracurricular will just make your life A HELL LOT easier at CMU. But it goes without saying that you need to display that you are good at math.
