@dreamer2023 @catpls @vonlost @1TakeIncgognito @caz0743 I have received the reply from CMU regarding the priority waiting list: It is not binding!
Just to clarify. You don’t put a deposit down on a priority wait list spot until May if you get offered a spot, right??
Decisions are out…D got in
That is great…any bargaining needed?
@FloDad , Was your D in priority waitlist?
@cbound2023 no…she was in regular decision…she got her decision this past weekend…and the FAT letter came in today…Not much FinAid though…not sure still…debating between GT and CMU
@thinkbig14 that’s right.
@FloDad - GT is $20k/yr less and has similar recruiting success. Unless there is a program at CMU that GT does not offer it seems GT is the way to go. Then there is the weather and distance assuming you are in FL. I will say that I like Pittsburgh WAY more than ALT though.
For those who were wait listed, please know that there were a good number of students who actually got in from the priority wait list after 5/1. There was an email that went out on 5/2 asking the students to write yet another essay expressing interest. They had 36 hours to submit it. If you are on the PW, please be sure to check your emails because it was easily missed. My daughter was one of the students who got accepted from the PWL. She knows several kids who also got in this way. There is hope if you are still interested (and don’t mind losing a deposit to another school). I am not sure that CMU will do this stunt again because they got a lot of complaints about it. Many felt it was very unfair to the kids to have to keep jumping through hoops for the college.Best of luck!
@victoriaaaaaa what department does your daughter go to?
Did anyone who got off the PWL last year visit CMU while on the waitlist for the 1/2 hour waitlist information session? Definitely shows interest but for people a plane ride away it is tough if it doesn’t do any good.
@awaitingoffers
“We will be changing our financial circumstances in the next few months and buying a house (we are living overseas rent free at the moment) so we are pretty confident we will then be able to up the aid offered from most schools”
Pretty sure mortgage on your primary residence does not affect financial aid. And any equity on the house might actually hurt with some schools that use CSS profile.
wow! @mbuchanan1 ! Really? That is bad news. We assumed that since we have no monthly expenses for housing or utilities (USG abroad) at the moment but will be paying out around 5k per month starting in AUgust that our AId would increase. This is very troubling but thank you for bringing it to my attention. I will look into that pronto.
Thanks!
Are there any BME major here ? Please respond

@1TakeIncgognito My daughter is in MCS. @thinkbig14 We did not visit after daughter took a place on the priority WL…however, she wrote a LOCI letter-and then that last minute essay.
Is the last minute essay for the PWL another round of evaluation among all PWL candidates where you can be ‘rejected’ again or is it a just a formality as they go through the list.
I thought that CMU doesn’t accept LOCI’s anymore. Apparently they’re practicing some fair policy or something. By the way, does anyone know what the short response/essay is going to be about for waitlisted applicants?
@billycat I honestly have no idea if it was evaluated or if they just asked the students to submit it to show further interest before CMU made decisions. I don’t know if they have done this in previous years either. However, it was a lot to ask of the kids after months of the application process.
@victoriaaaaaa So your daughter got in from the waitlist last year? What was the prompt if you don’t mind my asking? And how long was her LOCI?
Look at the ranking for GT vs CMU. If you are engineering why would u pay more for CMU
