Carnegie Mellon University Class of 2023 Regular Decision

I just sent out my loci today and they said that the only deciding factor on your waitlist position would be the short essay. It is a bit frustrating

@ElvaChennn So is there no point of sending in a loci?

Haven’t been here in a while, but S19 was in fact admitted BXA MCS/Music. (we read the letter wrong-but it was confusing I have to say) Anyway, ZERO aid and/or merit here.
A lot of schools are looking better now…

@1TakeIncgognito not at all, they don’t even look at it

Have you guys already got the link for the short response or will the Admissions Office send that later in may?

@PM99292939 they will send it in may i think, I haven’t gotten mine yet

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Since sharing accounts is prohibited, I have deleted several by a father using daughter’s account. Since responses to his posts make no sense out of context, those have been deleted as well.

@PM99292939 They only asked for the responses from some lucky few, who get picked…

But they ask after may 1st right?

@ElvaChennn Correct.

@anonymous522083 In the Celebration of Diversity weekend, the speaker said that 27000 applied and only 4000 got in. So approximately 14-15%

and that they expect 1,500 freshman class this year.

So, the anticipated yield is around 37.5%. Not very promising for those on WL.

Sorry…Not sure If I should start a new discussion but I saw on Instagram this a.m. that someone was all excited about getting ‘almost a FULL RIDE scholarship’ from CMU. He showed his acceptance from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences but no mention of merit in that letter. I thought CMU has done away with ALL scholarships? It says something like that on their website and several people have commented on it here and other college sites.?? Anyone know? Maybe the dude was less than truthful?

I can’t comment on other schools in CMU since my son is a school of music applicant. Usually music schools offer merit scholarships for those talented musicians but I was told by the Admissions that there was no merit scholarships for undergraduate students at CMU and it would all come from financial aid.

why are they anticipating this high yield rate at 37.5% - based on last year’s yield rate?

I’d say quite promising. 62.5% of the admits might be replaced from the WL.

They accepted 4000, and expect 1500 will enroll. about 37.5%. If 1400 enrolls, 100 will be filled from the WL.

If 1500+ enrolls, they will not use WL.

They keep separate WL for each schools, It is quite possible, some may over-enroll, and some under… and will draw some from WL.

We got very little financial aid where we had received double the amount at other schools. Friends of ours said they also received no financial aid.

But we chose to enroll him anyway because the starting salaries coming out of the school are so much higher. My son also agreed to work every summer moving forward and we will be saving like mad to supplement what we’ve already saved for his education.

@Dreamer2023 I’ve read that CMU does not offer Merit Aid, just like the Ivies, because everyone is deserving.
