Carnegie?

Here’s a brief overview of my background:

790 SAT Chem
800 SAT Math 2
3.9 weighted GPA (idk my unweighted GPA because my transcript didn’t specify)
AP Chem - 4
BC Calc - 5
AP Comp Sci - 5
AHAP - 4
SAT - 2100 (best among three. all sat grades are 2000+)
ACT - none (about to take one in the coming September)
Volunteered in hospital and school (more than 48 hours. idk the detailed number)

My current high school is one of the 200 top high schools.

This is my first post in College Confidential. Please excuse me if I posted in the wrong place.

I am unsure about my chance of getting into the computer science major of Carnegie, because I am Asian, and it is known that top colleges are more critical of Asian students.

Please be honest and cut to the chase (I want to face the reality. however, no exaggeration pls)

For extracurricular activities, I participated in cross country and spring track in my freshman and sophomore years. I am an official (unclear now…) of my school’s comp sci club.

Bump

Which school at CMU would you be applying to?

CM School of computer science

OK – that one is highly selective. It’s a reach for most applicants and likely would be for you.

I suggest forming a list of additional reach schools, matches, and at least one safety.

Figure out which schools you like best – according to preferences for the type of environment (urban/rural/suburban, weather, etc.), academic fit (majors, academic calendar, class size, etc.), social vibe/scene, etc. – and can afford without too much debt (run the NPC).

At CMU, if you are admitted to a different school it is virtually impossible to do an internal transfer to CS.

ikr. that’s why i don’t plan on using the transfer trick.

still what are my chances?

i will make a list of school, but pls focus on the target for now.

I am not qualified to answer chances but I will tell you that a young man I know admitted to CMU CS this year believes his portfolio video of his personal tech projects got him in. He put a lot of work into both the projects and the video, and it was pretty impressive.

He also had perfect Math SATs and a 3.7 from the top magnet school in the state, applied early, no financial aid, and was a double legacy.
