are freshman allowed to have cars on campus if they are boarding students?
do you think it's a good idea for a car?

i think they said cars weren't allowed for freshman when i took the tour. Or maybe they just don't get parking passes, and it's really haard to find a parking spot there. I don't think you would need a car because they hav a good bus system that's free for students.

Freshmen aren't allowed to have cars; there just isn't enough space. You don't REALLY need one, although there are some places (e.g. Monroeville Mall) that are far away and served by only one bus that comes like once every hour and a half. Mostly, though, your off-campus activities will be in Oakland, downtown, Squirrel Hill, Shadyside and the Waterfront, which are all easy to get to by bus.

Freshmen are allowed (CMU's parking policies say nothing about freshmen parking, so there's nothing against it), but passes are expensive, and may be harder to obtain next year with the Gates Center construction. The vast majority of people don't have cars, and I don't think it'd be worth it to bring it. The bus system is catered to students since there are so many of us that are required to buy bus passes (it's included on your bill...something like $30).

To summarize: Though you COULD have a car, I don't recommend bringing one.
