I have only two. Will they kill me over it or straight up reject me?? :/
I would apply to CALS under AEM but the acceptance rate is just amazing, 11%.
I practically have no chance of getting in for AEM, but Econ at CAS still sounds awesome.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Cornell's campus. Could live there forever. <3

The requirement grid specifically asks for three years of a language, so deficiency is a very valid reason for rejection.

Terrible reason not to apply. You definitely have a 100% of not getting into AEM if you don’t send an application for it.

i think it also depend on your circumstances. Like are you an immigrant? Do you proficient in mandarin? (judging based on your user name) Did you explain this deficiency in your application?

Off topic, but it has to be 3 years of ONE language? So does Mandarin and Cantonese count as the same language? lol

I think an SAT or an AP in a foreign language (provided that you get a good score) is fine instead of the 3 year requirement

^ hopefully it’s like that. I’m fluent in Spanish (and got a good score on the SAT II), but also have French and German classes on my transcript…

why not take TOEFL?

Well, it has to be 3 years of foreign language in high school
and yes, it is ONE language. weird, huh

I got an 800 on Chinese, but that means nothing. and though I’m an immigrant, Ive lived here for too long to have a valid reason for not taking a foreign language.

I think I’m just going to apply to AEM in CALS, though the admission rate is scary as heck.
It’s better than looking bad at CAS because of my deficiency, right?? Whatta yu guys think?

Many schools will let you off the hook if you already know another language.

If you scored an 800 on the Chinese test and are fluent (I’m assuming) then you can take the test here and test out of the language requirement for CAS.

If you know it well enough to test out of that, it’s likely that you are more than fine.
