I was offered a Hotel alumni by email yesterday even though I applied to CAS. And so it's called an "alumn contact" and not an "interview"? Do they want to clarify/confirm something?

Either way, I am extremely nervous. I'm a bit on the socially awkward side, and I'm afraid I'll have a hard time communicating/relating to the alumn, since I've read that they sometimes ask questions about movies and sports such, which I have absolutely no idea about.

What is a CAS interview like? Any tips/advice/past experiences?

Just be yourself and you will be fine. It’s not an admission interview, as CAS does not offer official interviews. These alum volunteer to do these informational meetings and are more informative for your benefit. There is another thread on this in this forum.

You should not take your parents. This is a time for you to show your maturity and independence.

Alumni contacts are done by alumni in your area, and are not school specific Iso an alumnus from any of the undergraduate colleges can meet with you). Be prepared to ask questions, and the alumnus will answer your questions as well. No need to be nervous, just be yourself.

And don’t bring your parents. They can wait outside.

I would be surprised if the interviewer asks you about movies or sports, but if you want to head off such questions, be prepared to talk about what interests you. As others have said above, this is an informational interview. The interviewer probably will not be able to answer questions about specific majors within CAS, but will share his Cornell experiences with you.

You can ask about what non-academic activities your interviewer was involved in while at Cornell, or ask about housing…or whatever you are curious about. Do try to relax because the interview is not meant to judge you, but to provide you with more info about Cornell. Have fun!
