Well, since I just found out I was rejected from ND, my decision is down to these two schools. I plan to do pre-med, and both of these schools are strong in this area. Case gave me a great scholarship and financial aid, whereas at Michigan I received very little and am also out-of-state. I really liked UMich when I visited, but the large size and price are definite factors; I think I would have a more enjoyable time at Michigan but don't want to face that kind of debt. I realize I might be getting some biased replies, but let me know what you think.

I'm in at Case with a nice scholarship as well - and UMich, out of state, with basically no aid. I plan to visit to get a feel for both the schools; I may go to Case but honestly I feel Michigan is the better option, both academically and as an environment - but of course, a lot can change after visiting. Like you said, I think I'd have a more enjoyable time at Michigan, but you know...I don't know this for sure. Have you visited Case?

Yeah, I actually visited Michigan and Case in the same trip because Cleveland was on my way home from Ann Arbor. It's hard to say which one I preferred. Case is nice because it's smaller and is very strong in the research area; as a pre-med I liked the fact that it's surrounded by hospitals, namely the Cleveland Clinic. Of course, if you plan on doing something different, this aspect probably doesn't appeal to you. Case also has just remodeled their dorms, and the ones reserved for upperclassmen are pretty amazing. I liked Ann Arbor better as a city and think there's a wealth of opportunity there. Pretty much all of their programs are very strong. Again, I think I would have more fun at UMich because students take so much pride in their athletic teams and because there are so many ways to get involved. But then again I shouldn't base my decision on that. I'm doing an overnight at Case this Friday, so I think that will give me a better perspective.
Zoogies, where are you from and what do you plan on studying?

I actually just got a call from a professor in Case's physics department. He was obviously trying to get me to go there, but i have already decided i probably wont. He asked me what other schools i was looking at and after i gave him 3 (including Umich) he just said "Uhhhh....." and paused for about a minute. It was awkward to say the least. I heard him out and it seemed like they are a smaller university that does have a good research program, but i dont think they compare to Michigan.

Case is pretty good for pre-med, from what I hear.

I'm from MA and plan on doing Engineering - possibly EE, or Engineering Physics if I go to Cornell, which I'm also looking at. And it's not at all a bad idea to base your decision on how happy you think you would be.

I am currently at UMich but I know someone who is at Case also doing premed as I am. I also applied to both UM and Case when I was a HS senior. Based just on academics, I think it depends on what kind of student you are. UM is the type of place where you have to be incredibly focused, and you must push yourself to make the grade here. As you know this place is really large, so the chance of getting loads of aid is still there, but not as available as I think there would be at Case

Case is a place that really really pushes you to get the grade also, just like UM. However since it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much smaller, it is a lot easier to get help from a professor and stuff like that.

for example lets say you didn't do so well on an exam. At UM you just gotta figure it out and make the effort yourself to get better. At Case they would probably ask you why you are having trouble and might have a little more concern. Both however are really tough premed programs. I am taking physics at outside schools, my friend at Case is taking a lot of her premed classes at my local school 2 so none is harder than the other. Just depends if you're the type who can do it on their own mostly or if you need a lot of help from faculty.

however in other aspects like overall appeal and such, UM blows Case out of the water lol...does Case even have a fball team, haha? Ann Arbor beats Cleveland anyday.
