Case vs University of Rochester

I'm deciding between the U of Rochester and Case Western for biomedical engineering. They both gave me similar scholarships, but Case would be a little cheaper. Any thoughts?

Have you visited both? Rochester is a bit smaller, both are great schools. Cleveland is a little nicer city and Case may give you access to more research earlier on- but both have strong ties to hospitals, Case has several hospitals adjacent or nearby, Rochester has Strong Memorial adjacent. Their rankings are almost identical, Rochester a couple spots higher but not enough to make a difference. Weather is comparable…so, actually I’ve been no help at all! Visit to see where you fit in better…

Rochester is ranked just a little bit higher but its much harder to get into town from campus. So if you prefer a city, Cleveland is more interesting, I would say and much easier to access from the Case Western campus. Rochester is beautiful but most students without cars stay on campus all four years, is what we have heard. Cleveland Orchestra, is one of the best orchestras in the world, and you can get a season pass. Eastman School of music is outstanding, and will have many concerts on campus at Rochester, but I do not think Rochester Symphony is quite to the level of Cleveland Orchestra if you want to listen to classical music by a professional orchestra. I think Cleveland beats Rochester for professional sports! I think Cleveland beats Rochester for foodies too. The biggest amusement park outside of Disney is near Cleveland, Cedar Point.

Where did you decide?

I decided on Rochester. I was leaning that way, and they were able to offer me a research grant and a higher scholarship so that decided it. However I liked both schools a lot and knew I couldn’t go wrong with either. @ekmy326

Hi. Any new thoughts to this discussion? Specifically biomedical major at each school, research opportunities, internships, classes, etc
Thanks

Case is hands down a better choice. It’s well respected in the community, the quality of education is top notch. There is no comparison.
