okay I received another email says they are going to accept about 40/800 people from waitlist, and we are going to receive an estimate fa package starting this week. This is very very nice compare to the way other schools treat their waitlist people.
Does anyone know if we can contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to find out our position on the waitlist?
I am not sure if they have a ranked waitlist…but it could be more like “a lot of nursing (picking a random major) students turned us down, we need more nursing students so take one of those off of the waitlist”
@Zpower99 could you post the email (so next year’s students can see)?
Dear
Because Case Western Reserve University is committed to providing an outstanding educational experience to all our students, including maintaining our small class sizes and providing housing options to any student we admit, we have chosen to be conservative with our initial offers of admission this year. Combined with the increase in applications, this means many qualified students were asked to take a place on our wait list this year.
I’m writing to provide you with a brief update on how Case Western Reserve will communicate with applicants taking a place on the wait list.
Beginning this week, Case Western Reserve will provide estimated financial aid packages to students on the wait list who have indicated an interest in need-based aid and completed both the FAFSA and the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE. Students who would qualify for scholarship if they were to be admitted from the wait list will be notified at the same time.
Beginning Friday, March 31 and throughout the course of the spring, we will be in touch with you weekly via email to provide you with an opportunity to keep Case Western Reserve informed of your plans and your interest in remaining on the wait list. If we are able to offer admission to any students on the wait list, we will use the responses to these emails to identify interested students, so it will be important that you respond each week if you remain interested. When we contact you, I hope you will elect to remain on the wait list.
We remain optimistic we will be able to offer admission to a number of qualified students from the wait list. In recent years, Case Western Reserve has admitted as few as 40 and as many 800 students from the wait list. We have begun offering admission to students on the wait list as early as April 15, but offers are often extended in the final week of April and throughout the month of May.
As a reminder, all students who are admitted from the wait list:
are considered for merit scholarships (about 75% of the U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents who were admitted from the wait list last year received a scholarship)
are considered for need-based financial aid if they would otherwise qualify
are guaranteed on-campus housing
When you said 40/800 I thought you were saying 40 out of 800 but it is 40 to 800.
THanks!
Why would you guys want to wait for an acceptance at Case. This school is okay, bit it’s not as good as what the school advertises it self as. I’d go somewhere else
Huh, I got a different email
Basically the same thing, but without the financial aid paragraph
Maybe it’s because I’m an international student
Ech, this sucks
Anyway, here it is

@summr99T I applied fincial aid, did you? They probably only send the extra information to students who applied fincial aid.
Well I’m an international student who applied for financial aid but recieved the email without the financial aid paragraph… @summr99T @Zpower99
@Zpower99 , I sent my admission counselor an email on Monday, I did not hear from him yet. How long did it take for you to get a reply on your email from the admission office?
@KoliInd99 you mean scholarship or fincial aid? I think those federal grants are only for citizens… but this is still weird anyway.
@4dreamschl I got this email on 3/27, 10 days after I received my waitlist decision.
Their wait-listed email makes me question the school.

Decisions/Deposits are due May1 at Colleges. Who is waiting on a Case offer into May or really late April for that matter? Makes no sense.
Case is playing games to maximize yield metrics.
@Zpower99 , sorry, I did not clarify, I meant your original email, not the current one. The email you sent to the admission office on 3/17. How long did it take for the admission office to reply to your email on 3/17.
BTW, thanks for answering all my questions…I am getting very nervous.
@DemonDad people can accept another school’s offer and pay the deposit while waiting for waitlist decision. This is only if you really want to go to CWRU or you really don’t want to go to your safety school
@4dreamschl don’t be nervous! I send my continute interest email right after I got my waitlist decision, and the admission office replied me about 8 hours after.
Yes they are optimizing yield metrics…but so do most very competitive colleges.
@Zpower99 I submitted the CSS for university aid and also submitted a separate scholarship application actually… I totally agree that this is wierd…
@Zpower99 Understood, but accepting at another institution, depositing money, and then backing out of the decision in May because Case finally accepted you - seems wrong on several levels.
We have a friend accepted off of the waitlist at WashU two weeks into May, after accepting admissions to and paying the deposit at Tufts. She lost her deposit but WashU was her first choice. It happens quite regularly. There is so much about this college process that is wrong on several levels. I for one am glad its coming to an end.
