@DemonDad…That is how waitlists work! The student has not double deposited…they will withdraaw from the other school as they accept the wait list school. That is why they have a deposit…to make it more painful to not attend…but colleges expect summer “summer melt”,…that is, some % of students who committed that end up not attending for whatever reason.
@bopper, I sent my admission counselor an email on Monday, I still have not heard from him. Should I send a follow up email? Please advice.
This is a crazy time of year for admissions counselors…what did you say in the email? It may not be time to respond yet.
@bopper, my email was to express my interest and update on my new accomplishments.
I just received my estimate fincial aid package, and the coat of attendance is only 2k cheaper than my backup(UIUC), and I don’t know much about CWRU this school; so I am going to cross Case out of my list. Good luck everyone!
@Zpower99 You really did? You’re an international student, correct?
@summr99T I am a permanent resident(green card holder)
@Zpower99 Hmmm, I see. Nevermind then.
Looks like the international applicants won’t get a financial aid notification. Oh, hell yeah. Thanks, Case.
Really weird, but S just got estimated financial aid, including scolarship dollars…if he comes off the waitlist. Anyone else get this. Everyone given scolarship $ ?
Yes, my son received his aid so that he knows what his costs will be if he is accepted off the wait list. Its actually good that they do this since they are an expensive school. It ensures that those who accept the wait list know they can afford to go.
We do not qualify for financial aid, but my S received an email saying that if accepted they expect he will receive $27,000 per year merit aid. It’s a good way to do it I think as families will know if they can afford the school. It should streamline their waitlist a bit. It was a big disappointment to be waitlisted since his stats are above the 25-75% range, and we visited, and he is a NMF, but he did not do the follow up emails I asked him to do. If you are reading these posts in the future, showing interest is super important.
Completely agree on the demonstrated interest. There were at least 2 schools that I believe S would have been admitted to if he had shown more interest. Instead he was waitlisted and in one case I believe he would have received merit aid with his admit if he had shown interest. Echoing @mylast , if I were to give only one piece of advise to next year candidates it would be the importance of showing interest. If you live to far away to visit, there are a number of other ways to show interest. Privates simply don’t want to admit students that have a low probability of attending.
Check out this article of one women’s experience with sexism in college as a CS student (this was at Stanford) but tis is why we need the STEM programs for girls.

Anyone accepted from the waitlist yet?
no because nobody will until 4/15:
“Starting April 15, but offers are often extended in the final week of April and throughout the month of May.”
Is CWRU okay with us sending in waitlist letters of continued interest? I know some schools don’t want them and sending it in would hurt your chances so I was wondering if that was the case for CWRU
@nbrafter What I think happens is that Case will check in with you from time to time to see if you are still interested…I am not sure if you need a letter in addition. But if you have accomplished something recently or want to tell them that they are your #1 choice and would attend, I don’t think it would hurt to send a letter like that once (but still respond to any emails checking if you want to remain on waitlist)
@nbrafter CWRU has sent two emails so far to folks on the waitlist. One on the 31st I think and one today. I assume you have received those and have responded. They will continue to send one email each week and responses are required to each. (I am guessing you know this, but just in case for those that don’t know putting the information here) A response is required to stay on the waitlist.
Outside of that, while I don’t know the answer, I do think it never hurts to express your interest in a thoughtful and non agitating way. In particular if you have additional accomplishments that you can share, or if you want to let them know that CWRU is your top pick and you will attend if selected. Also if you have a unique talent that will give you a hook, now would be the time to use that. As an example only, S had 2 friends two years ago that came off the UCLA waitlist because they were willing to commit to the marching band…one with a Tuba-(needed by the school).
Has everyone received emails asking for info update? Cuz I haven’t.
Dont know if it’s my problem… back to the waitlist confirmation email, I did not receive it until I contacted the admission office.
Yes. My S is receiving them every Friday.
