***Case Western Class of 2022 EA Thread***

@etibbs, my daughter is nursing.
Her Facebook messenger is lindseyl2000 if you want to reach out to her and say hi!

That’s good planning @Dayruin!!

Got accepted EA with about half a scholarship.

Class president, varsity sports, band, jazz band etc. Very involved
I never got the chance to visit but very excited to have gotten in and want to go visit now if I have the chance.

I’ve been lurking around these boards for a while and thought I would contribute-

D accepted EA with $25k University Scholarship
Intended major: political science/international studies
Minor: Judaic studies
ACT 33 single sitting (36 R, 33 E, 32 S, 30 M)
SAT II: 780 World History, 710 US History
GPA: 3.9 (uw)
AP Scholar
National Honor Society
National Spanish Honor Society
Two Regional Gold Keys in Scholastic writing, several Silver Keys
Beautiful creative writing essay, great recommendations
Other local awards
Student Teacher at synagogue religious school
Counselor in after school program at JCC
student Teacher at community wide Hebrew School
Regional Board member, wrote and presented multiple programs for several years for religious youth group (USY)
Visited once, interviewed on campus, met with a professor in the Judaic Studies Department. It is a very small cohort.

In her acceptance, the PS said “we hope you will pair your faith with service at our Hillel”.

I personally think the reason D was accepted is because the school had a need for someone with her background- CWRU has a brand new Hillel building and it must be on administration’s radar to be sure it is utilized. She just happened to bring something to the table that was a bit unusual which appealed to them.

So when I read about all the amazing, stellar kids who were deferred from Case, I really do think it is a matter of fitting what they are looking for in terms of diversity, needs, and pet projects even more than stats. If you have something in your background that fits their internal priorities, then acceptance may be easier.

I truly hope that all the incredible kids who were deferred get accepted down the road!

Hey can somebody please start a group for accepted students? On FB or Instagram or something? I want to get to know my potential classmates but I’m too lazy/not savvy enough to make a group lol.

am i the only one who hasnt gotten an email and has nothing posted on the status portal?

@peachesnpandas did you apply for a pre professional program?

@Naan23 yes but I was under the impression that the two applications were separate, but maybe I’m wrong

@peachesnpandas Well you’re definitely not alone then because none of the pre professional applicants in this thread heard from Case yet. They are separate applications because you can get admitted to Case without being admitted pre professional, but it seems like you will be notified in February about your admission status for both of those. To be sure though, try calling or emailing admissions. That’s all I can think of.

Agree with @Naan23. Because the preprofessional prompt is on the ug application, it’s a 2-in-1. So, consideration and notification for those program would be later, no matter when application was submitted.

@Naan23 @ppst thank you!

@Naan23 there is a Facebook group… search Case Western class of 2022

My D got into CW EA w. a generous $30K/yr. Stats SAT 1550, SAT II Chem 760, Sat II Math 790. Top public & ultra competitive & tough High School (per US WorldNews) based in SoCal. GPA thru Junior UW 3.7, 4.5 Weighted. 8 APs thru Junior + 4 UC recognized extra weight Honors courses. Volunteer at hospital, GirlsScout Gold Award, Pres of club. Demonstrated interest by showing up at campus in summer.
She used to like CWRU but lately has been hearing negative things from her peers & friends :(. Any current kids from have any feedback? Is the college atmosphere too dull? Does it offer a true undergrad college experience? Are there only extremities like uber competitive nerds and loser/junkies? Is the college career and other support system upto par? Hear it’s a great university but some noise bothers us.

@Naan23 I also just started a group chat on GroupMe

@lport12 Okay so I just downloaded GroupMe. (Never used it before haha) Could you tell me how to join the group? I clicked like every button in the app and I can’t figure it out.

@PDX2018grad Okay thank you so much! Sorry, I wasn’t able to find it before, because I’m really bad with Facebook since I never use it, but I figured it out and sent them a request to join it now.

Accepted, no scholarship, I’m a internation student.
I go to a private school in Charlottesville ,
SAT 1430, GPA UW 3.78, 15 APs, no class ranking.
Major: Internation business
I also submitted a portfolio, with a lot of works and interns I’ve done as a film major student haha, and a film I made.
Most of my ec are film related because I wanna go to film school.
Never been to the campus.

@lport12 Actually just did a quick google search and figured it out lol. Could you please click the share group button in the group settings, copy the share link, and paste the url here so people can join?

@perplex1 What -ve narratives about CWRU bother you and D?

Too competitive among the pre-med kids? Guess that’s the norm with pre-med kiddos all across the country (at least in top schools). My nieces are either in UPenn pre-med, Emory Pre-med, heck, even in Upitt pre-med - they are all competitive crowds. Grade deflation is the norm, and yes, getting a 93 in a class can mean you get a B+. That’s reality with almost everywhere with these top programs.

You mean CWRU is too dull, not a party school. Yup. I would agree with that. My S got in UMich and CWR - no way I could compare these two in terms of school spirit rahs rahs…

as for losers and junkies, they are everywhere. I visited Vandy and Duke a year ago, no doubt there were a big bunch of nerds. good fun friendly kids around, I also saw the uber rich, spoil kids driving you know what… and girls wearing stuff like some hotel heiress on campus. I doubt these people got in because they score 1550 in SAT and has a 3.9 uw GPA.

My message is - do the visits, and see what other choices you have.

If CWRU ranking is too low for your taste and your have better ranking schools to pick, then great.

If CWRU’s culture is a bad fit, also a valid reason to say no thanks.

But if your daughter is coming from a competitive HS, I doubt the ultra-competitiveness of Case Pre-med crowd is anything she can’t handle. My S is doing biophysics/BME - with the acceptance of both CWRU and UMich, our search is done. At least based on this morning’s quick assessment, my S is heading to Case vs UMich - even Mich has a higher ranking, and he is single legacy plus sibling legacy there. He is looking for somewhere smaller, less rowdy, and most importantly, a place that will prep him well for a TOP grad school in the future.
