@perplex1 One of my best friend’s daughters is at CWRU right now. I can put your daughter in touch if you like. Also check out (with a grain of salt) http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/case-western-reserve-university/1729119-a-definitive-objective-description-of-case-western-by-a-current-student.html
My son was deferred. ACT 35. GPA 4.0 all AP or dual credit classes private rigorous school. Works full time in the summer. Volunteers with special needs kids. Leader of a couple of EC’s. Interviewed and visited. Talked to CW at every in town college fair. Has LD’s in reading and writing. Went from 15% in grade school for these and got a 12 out of 12 on the writing portion of the ACT and 35 in English. English AP classes scores 5’s. Not much more he can do. Will send a letter to show interest. Have GC call. Great recommendations, very good essay. Major: Electrical and Computer Engineering
@ambkeegan, I’m sorry. I don’t believe for a second that the deferral has anything yo do with your son’s abilities and who he is as a person.I do think it’s about the freshman class CWRU wants to create. There is something else going on here, and it’s college admissions. It’s out of our control. (Yield? Rankings? Now meeting full demonstrated need but are still need aware? And the possibility that some deferred kids really are on the bubble). Schools can modify and adapt their policies, and objectively, this is a busines. No doubt you have a great kid. My D was also deferred and will be /has done some following up as well. Since she really, really wants to be able to consider CWRU as an option, she will continue to do so.
See my earlier post with feedback from my D’s GC from when she called Case this week.
I feel your pain, and give you and your son encouragement to keep doing the things that ARE in your control to do.
@ambkeegan I think CWRU took a cold, hard look at your kid and decided he’d have other options that he’d probably take. If not, if he’s truly serious about CWRU, they’ll know it because you’ll act accordingly.
I tried searching for a facebook group for class of 2022 and I can’t find anything. I have no idea how to work group me. Can anyone lead me to a place where I can socialize with people officannly going to Case that’s not CC?
I’m curious. My older children did well but not like my son. They went to our state university that all of our smartest kids go. I have no experience these more selective schools. So what schools does anyone or CW think he would be applying too? White middle class male ACT 35. 4.0 GPA lives in the Midwest. Electrical and computer engineering but wants to be at a school where he can continue his education in liberal arts. Philosophy. History. English. . More volunteer work than EC’s. Is a leader in a couple of EC’s. There are not president positions at his school. If he has the right opportunity I can see him going farther away. My other kids stayed close to home. He has applied early due to the scholarship ops to Georgia tech. Purdue. And his safely schools in which has had been accepted. He is now working on his 1/1 applications. I know these Ivy’s are a crap shoot and I don’t want him in an environment that is super stressful. What schools would CW think he may be applying to? CW wasn’t his safely school either he liked the school.
@ambkeegan , I hear ya that this deferral really gripes you! I don’t know what to say, as your son’s stats are similar to my son’s stats, who was admitted EA two years ago. As someone said above, Case was looking to admit about 1/3 of the EA applicants; I don’t think anyone can really say why your S wasn’t one of them. I also think he has a good chance of being admitted RD if you keep up the contact with them.
Fingers crossed. I sincerely hope it works out for you. He sure sounds like a Case student to me.
I’m super excited to be accepted EA to Case Western as a University Scholar ($33k per year)
Homeschooled African American Female- chemistry or biochemistry major
32 ACT/4.05 weighted gpa
SATII: 720 WH/740 Bio E
4 AP courses/several Community College courses, including College Calc1. We sent special documentation to Case, so they understand that I had different course options (eg not too many APs) than a traditionally schooled student.
I don’t have the best stats and wasn’t sure what to expect, especially because I didn’t show any interest (no interview, no college visit, etc.) I really poured my soul out into my essays and I asked for advice from teachers and parents. Hopefully, I’ll get to report more of these acceptances!
This is great news. Mazel Tov!
@jayparent I’m from California
Is case ever going to send an acceptance letter of is it strictly online with them? I’ve gotten letters from other colleges who accepted me at a later date and I’ve gotten nothing from case.
I am super excited to be admitted!

.
I probably had an unusual leg-up at Case because I am already taking dual-enrollment classes there(started this fall) and one of my recommendation letters was from a research scientist at their med school because of an internship I had last summer. Plus, my mom went to grad school there. I wasn’t a fan of my essay(a bit too “touchy-feely” for my taste, but I never really like anything I write!) and think my teacher recommendations were mediocre but my optional one from the research scientist was pretty darn good I think. Sent extra info on classes and school philosophy since I’m homeschooled.
I second the motion about a “potential class of 2022” facebook page or something!
@laly84100 @slytherclaw16 The Facebook page is called Case Western Reserve University Class of 2022, and if you post your number there someone can add you to the groupme. Can’t wait to meet you guys!
It says that I need to add Case to my bio to be let into the group, but is it possible to get in without doing that? I have multiple friends who didn’t get in and I would rather not be so public about my acceptance. My school frowns upon making acceptances very public.
@laly84100 I didn’t add it to my bio either, so it shouldn’t be a problem
Is Case going to send a hard copy with all the info for EA admitted students? Or, Online is it.
Thank you!! You too!
Got admitted in EA. Do we still have to send our mid-year grades? Can’t tell by visiting the website.
deferred. 1530 sat, 3.6 w gpa… great essay & recommendations, & demonstrated interest. it was probably the gpa that hurt me
Keep your head up @taxicab1729! Be sure to complete whatever directions they give in their upcoming email.
