October 31.

Got my envelope in the mail today!

I’m not sure what’s with all the deferrals.

My stats:
2000 SAT
good GPA (school doesn’t use 4.0 scale)
lots of extracurricular activities
12 honors/AP classes
good recommendations

I made it very clear during my interview that CUA was my first choice (I love the Catholic identity and location).

Question for those accepted: on CardinalStation there’s a message that says my application is incomplete because of a missing item called “Honors Program Acceptance.” I did not receive any info on the honors program in my envelope–is this the case for anyone else?

My daughter found out she was accepted on Cardinal Station a few days ago and today she received the information packet inviting her to accept admission for the honors program. She hasn’t received the official admissions packet yet though. She attends a Catholic high school so CUA has always been one of her top choices. She was very enthusiastic about CUA, with visits, admission interview, and follow up emails to her admission counselor. She also went to the information meeting at her hs to see if there was any more information, so they knew she was very interested. She’s got a touch choice ahead of her, as she found out yesterday she was accepted early admission to Villanova too.

We found out my D’s acceptance this morning on Cardinal Station and received the big envelope in today’s mail. We live in CT.

@lagr42 - I also live in CT. Another friend of mine got his acceptance today as well.

My CardinalStation still doesn’t say anything, but if everyone else completed their apps by Oct 31st, I’m not going to worry. I didn’t go EA, nor am I Catholic. I’m actually Methodist, which I believe I put on my Common App. That could easily qualify me as a reject?

My daughter’s said the same thing, but then yesterday she got the honors program info in the mail with a deadline for acceptance by May 2012. I’m thinking the people that are going to be invited into the honors program have that, and the year is a typo?? perhaps they meant to put 2012?

I GOT IN!!
3.52 W GPA
1810 SAT Superscore
4 Years JV/Varisty Track
2 Years JV Tennis
Lots of volunteer work and clubs

this is soo excitingg!

Thanks for the response Seniormom2012–

I’ve received 3 different envelopes from CUA on 3 separate days–hopefully the Honors Program info will come tomorrow. The year on my Cardinal Station is wrong too. Congratulations to your daughter!

Glad I could help, CJK314. Hope you get the honors info soon!

SATs- 1590 and 3.26 GPA. I’m Thrilled!!!

For those deferred with high GPA/SATs, sorry to hear this. I doubt that Catholic doesnt want smart students. They probably have years of data that shows that a very, very low percentage of applicants with those kind of SATs come to Catholic. In general, if you have very high SATs and you want a Catholic college in DC, you target Georgetown. If you just want to go to college in DC you probably also target GW and American. Catholic is a safety and they probably know that from their historical data. Let them know that Catholic is your choice and you will get in. Good luck.

Congrats to everyone that got in!!! I am still puzzled why they would defer smart students - those that posted here (Sat below 2000) have no shot at Georgetown… and probably couldn’t pay for it in this economy if they did get in. Rather they sound like honor / merit candidates to me… (700 hrs of community service)… so to deter them…? Is having a low acceptance rate really that important? Why have a non-binding early action program if it doesn’t apply to people with higher SAT’s… make it binding… If it is their first choice and they get deferred it leaves a bad taste about Catholic’s commitment to academics and makes them start looking elsewhere… They HAVE to start looking elsewhere- since they may not get in!!

CatholicMom,
I guess universities have their reasoning…My daughter was deferred from Tulane, and from what I understand a big part of it could have been because they were not convinced that Tulane was a first choice school for her, which it wasn’t. I was still surprised as she has a 4.59 GPA, #2 rank in class, and a 2090 SAT. Advice from another parent was that admission counselors have a lot of experience in “seeing” what may be just a safety school app compared to a top choice, and perhaps they would rather offer early admission to someone who may have a little lower numbers, but truly wants to attend that university.

My daughter has been passionate about CUA since freshman year, and loves DC. I think that showed in all of her interactions with admissions. She never even looked at GT or American though, as she really likes CUA. I don’t think it’s fair or accurate to assume that people accepted into CUA early action could not get into Georgetown…For some, Georgetown may not have ever been on their radar.

catholicmom, good points…I agree your comments. I’m puzzled too. My main point was that I very much doubt that they 1) don’t want smart kids and 2) don’t want kids with high SATs. Kids coming to Catholic with high SATs will increase their avg SAT scores, which is probably the stat they care about most. So the only thing that I can think of is that they must have historical data that tells them that for one reason or another it’s beneficial to them to defer those kids. I think a key take away is that it’s important to make it clear that Catholic is your first choice. Look at CJK314, he has high SATs and got in. He told them in the interview that Catholic was his first choice.

Hello everyone I’m an Undergraduate student who had just as many qualifications as you guys have and was almost denied from Catholic. The truth is Catholic is a very very good school but with other more known schools in D.C. it has become a safety school. CUA was also a safety school for me. I was accepted into all of my other schools without a problem. After multiple tours of all of my schools I really felt CUA was the best place for me, and have no regrets about attending here.

For all of the students with top qualifications you need to really let CUA know that it is the school for you. CUA is not solely worried about how high or low your G.P.A. is, they need to know that you are of good character and do plan on attending the school if accepted.

And for the students who think that CUA is not that a good of a school to be on your top list, that sucks. Trust me its easier to get into CUA than it is to stay, The courses are very rigorous. They know that they are in the heart of D.C. with a school arguably good enough to be an Ivy League school (Georgetown) and three other schools that are also well known in the professional arena, therefore Catholic gives their students a very rigorous course load. Alumni place very well in their Career field and a lot have been accepted into Graduate programs at Ivy League schools easier than they were accepted into Catholic.

For the students who don’t have the best academic record you should definitely apply . CUA will be your second chance to obtain a top notch education. Be prepared to work and study very hard. 20% of freshman do not make it past the first year.

Anyway Good Luck to all of you guys I hope you all get into your dream schools. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions

Got accepted to CUA nursing program almost positive i am going there…from a catholic high school with a 3.42 UW GPA take honors classes with a SAT of 1620 and critical &math 1100 very involved at my high school with student government and other things…got a 14,000 a year merit scholarship anyone else get scholarships?

Hi everyone! There’s a Facebook page for accepted students for the class of 2016. [Log In | Facebook](http://www.facebook.com/groups/181671731910868/)

stephcarroll- congratulations on your acceptance! in answer to your question re the $14,000 scholarship, my daughter was offered the same she has similar stats and is strongly considering attending as well.

For those who have been offered merit awards, wondering if you able to see the award on Cardinal Station under view awards or was it a letter that you received, or both.

Congrats on the merit scholarship!

Question: My son got in EA and also received a similar scholarship. CUA is high on his list. We are from Chicago. Is anyone else from the Midwest thinking of attending CUA (class of 2012)?

What is the highest scholarship anyone received? Also, is anyone going to study accounting? How is CUA for business?
